How is everyone’s uptime with build 591? Mine seems terrible.
After my initial 38 days up, it locked up and had to reboot. It then lasted 5 days. And now after 9 days I had to reboot again.
In all cases I can ping the router but cannot access the admin page so can’t figure out what’s going on.
I really need to go back to an older firmware but I have overseas guests 😟

Thanks so much. I thought you may have been ‘overwhelmed’ and lost track.
It would be good to get report back from other users to provide further evidence for ASUS, as sample pool size is small.

Now I’m beginning to see a pattern regarding the memory usage based on user reports.
Jsteptoe and myself – have regular memory leaks and have reach > 90% used – we both have many wifi clients
pavlf – has a lesser memory leak issue – but has only 3 wifi clients
dodgydrains – has no memory leaks – does not use wifi
I think it’s fairly safe to say the more wifi clients you have, the more memory it leaks each day.
Perhaps the QA team at Asus are only testing with only a few wifi clients connected and need to test with many more.
I personally have a pool of around 30 devices, but on average at least 10 wifi clients connected at anyone time.

Sorry, I don’t understand the question.
To disable wifi scheduling, I simply set to “no”. This is available in all firmware versions.
Only newly introduced to 591 was the ability to create a customised schedule for each day (this was the reason I decided to upgrade from 502 firmware). Previously, the schedule could only be set for weekdays and weekends.

No apologies necessary! We appreciate the effort you go through, even though it’s not a modem/router you are actively using.
An update regarding disabling wifi scheduling – it makes no difference to the memory leak. It’s still leaking 6MB/day. I have all the fancy stuff off. If dodgydrains observation is correct, then the memory leak is somewhere in the new wifi drivers as I use wifi and he doesn’t.
Unfortunately, I cannot test by disabling wifi for a day as all hell would break loose in the household lol.

Thanks for the update
I believe you are going to be the first to hit above 90% and then I can pass this back to ASUS 😉
I posted earlier I reached 91% before DHCP would not accept anymore requests and had to reboot. So please pass on to ASUS.
It’s definitely an issue as with the 502 FW I was able to go at least 2 months before I had to reboot (to install new FW – not due to an issue).

I’ve no idea why.
I concur! Since last posting, my reboot only lasted 12 hours before the modem/router locked up – normally I can toggle the LEDs with the front button, but in this state no response. Wifi would connect and authenticate, but I cannot access the admin page. Presumably a DHCP issue. I rebooted and it lasted 5 days before locking up again!
I bit the bullet and factory reset it. If it locks up again, I will be going back to my previous stable version of 502.
I am using my DSL-AC88U with AiProtection and wireless turned off. All my devices are connected to internet via wifi mesh. Probably this is why after 11 days my RAM used is still 39% (178MB)
This is interesting and may point to the wifi causing the leaks (as a few of us don’t use AiProtection but still have memory leaks).
I’ve attached a chart of my memory usage over my 38 days of uptime. Extremely linear, indicating something in my setup is causing it. I have disabled wifi scheduling to see if that isolates another variable.

I was able to get on 2.4GHz to check the RAM used was 419MB (91%).
The last part of the syslog seems to indicate dns and dhcp restarted 12 hours ago. There was no more entries after that despite the modem/router still being up and partially working. Maybe it can’t use the remaining free RAM?
I’m surprised none of you are experiencing the same thing. Perhaps not many have theirs up long enough!

RAM usage for RT-AC86U is now 386MB (75%) and was previously 373MB (73%) so RAM usage is increasing by say 1% per day (ish)
This is the same behaviour I’m experiencing with my DSL-AC88U. Looks like they share some common code base. oxygen8 doesn’t have problems with Merlin FW so it’s also seemingly an ASUS thing?
Static IP’s for everything
I’ll might give this a try when/if my unit reboots. I currently have about 38 devices on DHCP. Maybe it’s writing to some log file.

I’m pretty much have everything off. My only difference with pavlf is that I’m not using a VPN and have about 10 wifi clients. Maybe this is the reason. Running official 585. I have web history off. Does the unit store more of the system log than we are able to view?
I know the unit caches DNS lookups, but is it worth like 6MB/day? Perhaps someone who doesn’t use the internet everyday can test, but don’t like our chances of find someone to do that :)

I don’t have AI or any special features enabled. It’s puzzling to see why some have their RAM usage high, where others are steady.
Another question. Does anyone know if ASUS is fixing/investigating the group key rotation issue?
I recall those with android having issues, but fixed with android patches. I still have a Windows 10 PC that is unstable if group key is set at the default of 3600. I’ve set it to 86400 and it seems to have resolved the intermittent connectivity loss, but would prefer something more secure.
