    Hi All,

First post here, so go easy please.

Soon I’ll be receiving aAc68U router.

Once it arrives it will be connected to my ISP router (virgin media hub 3)

will it be possible to use ASUS DDNS if the asus router is effectively sitting behind the hub 3  ??

I was planning on giving it a fixed ip address from the hub 3, and the putting that fixed ip  into the DMZ on the hub 3. Turning off wifi on hub3 & creating a VPN on asus router + wifi

    your thoughts please

Welcome, The Sky router ( I believe) supports  DynDNS, is that not good enough ? or do you need extra functionality of ASUS DDNS ?

From Sky ISP, is your External IP address Fixed as this would be the major issue you would have using the ASUSDNS behind the SKY router (double NAT) and no Fixed External IP address that could change at any time.

Thanks, but not sure of the relevance of a sky router for my situation.

As I don’t have sky or sky equipment

no idea why I thought Sky (i’ll get my Jacket) …….

I believe your ISP (virgin media hub 3) has a Modem Mode option as this would cure a lot of issues when using ASUS DDNS ?

    https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-hub-modem-mode

Out of Interest, why are you getting the DSL-AC68U, as the RT-AC68U would be more suitable as the DSL-AC68U has an inbuilt modem already ?

    Hi

    Sorry for the late reply.

I have got the VM hub in modem mode, and the asus router  receives its connection from the VM hub, via WAN port (not using the DSL part of asus router)

I have now successfully registered a asuscomm.com DDNS address

But is there anything else I need to configure, as putting the new url I have created does not get me to the router when browsing

    Thanks

So you have set WAN Port as LAN1 ?

If so and connection is via PPPoE then this sounds like it should work OK?

Sounds like you maybe double Natting, check above to see if you have set-up as a above ?

Is your connection to VM Hub via PPPoE ?

    Have you seen this ?

I meant from ASUS to VM Hub (WAN Settings > Internet Connection on your ASUS unit) WAN connection Type ?

Alas do not have easy access to DSL-AC68U so am relying on my memory

I meant this under Admin to open SSH access from WAN/internet: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1000926/

But its somehow insecure, better to use VPN to connect to your intranet from abroad.
