ASUS New DSL-AX82U Modem Router Combo – Wifi 6

thanks for the update, shame that Asus are so slow in updating things.

Fibre will be available here soon and I am considering upgrading my ax82u to the asus bt8, but given the really poor firmware support from them i’ve seen with the ax82u i’m hesitant to buy more asus network products.

So a recent malware release has effected many ASUS RT routers and I have asked ASUS if the DSL-AX82U is impacted and when a security fix might be available for the DSL-AX82U.

ASUS said the DSL-AX82U is impacted and are working on a fix.

To reduce the exposure to this new ASUS router malware, until a fix has been released, ASUS have said to me, best to ….

1. turn of AiCloud,
2. disable WAN remote access etc.
3. and also re-configure a strong, lengthy password.

 

This should help until a fix is released and change-log will look similar to below:

1. Strengthened input validation and data processing workflows to further protect information security.
2. Enhanced AiCloud password protection mechanisms, safeguarding against unauthorized access attempts.
3. Enhanced device security through improved buffer handling in connection features.
4. Refined data handling processes, ensuring secure and accurate information management.
5. Enhanced file access control mechanisms, promoting a more secure operating environment.
6. Strengthened certificate protection, providing enhanced data security.

Out of interest, does the malware only affect Asus modem routers or other routers like my RT-AX86U for example and S?

The RT-AX86U / S is also impacted but ASUS have released a fix for your RT-AX86U / S Today via app

RT routers always seem to receive priority when compared to DSL routers, ASUS BT8 is a nice choice and does have a 2.5G WAN port which is ideal for Full fibre.
