thanks for the update, shame that Asus are so slow in updating things.

Fibre will be available here soon and I am considering upgrading my ax82u to the asus bt8, but given the really poor firmware support from them i’ve seen with the ax82u i’m hesitant to buy more asus network products.

I haven’t heard from ASUS regarding any Wifi 7 DSL modem routers unfortunately, but I will ask.

yes, DSL-AX82U EOL is scheduled for 31st December 2025

 

Note: as far as I am aware, both the likes and Broadcom and Intel have not yet publically released and Single chipset solution that supports both ADSL2+ and VDSL2 and Wifi 7.

The DSL-AX82U used the Broadcom BCM63178 which is a single-chip solution that combines ADSL2+ and VDSL2 and Wifi 6

I have contacted ASUS a couple of times and unfortunately they have not responded, I can only assume ASUS have no plans beyond the DSL-AX82U.

I will keep chasing ASUS and hopefully they will respond.

31st Dec 2025 was the minimum software support end date, which also says “extended support may be provided after the stated date”,  so it is  not EOL.

Asus’ actual EOL page shows the DSL-AX82U as the only current DSL modem router product https://www.asus.com/event/network/EOL-product/ so it might be worth asking given it is not EOL and is their only current DSL modem router product, how long support, and manufacture  is planned to last

Only time will tell if the DSL-AX82U receives any further firmware releases but worth an ask indeed.

 

FWIW: This publication gives the Product Security Update until 4 years (until 31th December 2025) for UK and as you say,  extended support may be provided after the stated date.

I have had feedback from ASUS and much like when I asked the same question last year, they say the following.

“I am afraid not, no plan at the moment”

 

FWIW:

The real challenge for ASUS and other router manufacturers is that, while the DSL‑AX82U uses Broadcom’s BCM63178 to provide DSL and Wi‑Fi 6 in a single SoC, there is still no DSL chipset on the market that integrates Wi‑Fi 7.

Of course ASUS could uses multiple chipsets to achieve the same function, but this gets expensive.
