HI,
I’ve just msged them asked to go ahead and move to the tariff so will wait and see what I need to do, if anything.
The other big plus for me is that both my gas & elec will end at the same time so I’ll then be able to look at options for both in one go.
I used to do this before and it worked out cheaper for me to have different suppliers but due to changes in energy market now with a lot of the smaller companies having folded, i suspect I will end up on a dual fuel tariff in a years time, either with existing supplier or someone else.
So fsr existing one not been too bad, had some niggles in the beginning and was hard to get hold of last year when trying to get them to switch me but in the end it worked out and bonus was they effectively gave me the exit fee so you could argue its costing me nothing to get out of the fix :)
For some reason, I’ve noticed on my account they are requesting meter readings but this includes the Elec which is a smart meter so not sure why that’s suddenly not sending readings back.
Meter is approx 5 or 6 years old and i thought the batteries in them lasted 10 years? Although being this is elec, I’d expect it to run from mains power, unlike the Gas smart meters which operate via a battery, hence why I’ve not switched that one yet.
I’ll deal with that after the tariff change :)
I’ve had my elec with them for a while so they know my typical usage so not expecting them to suddenly over estimate my usage.

June 12, 2023 at 8:46 pm #25183As you say, they could be having issues connecting to your smart meter but I am sure they will provide clarity at some point and a problem for another month

June 13, 2023 at 7:44 pm #25192Got a reply today saying they have set me up for the fixed plan :)Â I’m meant to get a “Welcome” email but not had one for Elec or Gas so about to reply and let him know, not sure why I not got them.

June 13, 2023 at 8:15 pm #25193Just logged in, shows my new elec & gas from July plans so that looks all ok, still no email so I’ve messaged them and to ask if they can try take a reading from smart meter as nothing changed my end, that way I will know if its the website telling fibs or they genuinely cannot read it as the message says not been able to take a reading since . no actual date, just a full stop… and I have last statement which proves they took a meter reading in May (not had bill for June yet).

June 29, 2023 at 9:26 am #25333S0 my Octopus Super Green Octopus 24M fixed deal ends tomorrow – Fixed term ends 30/06/2023

Will be interesting to see if the Octopus Smart meter picks up any changes in Standing Charges and the increase in my dual fuel tariff being switched to the Flexible Octopus tariff .
As I use roughly ÂŁ3 of Gas/Electric a day which includes the standing charges, it will be interesting if this change is visible via the Smart Meter next week ?

June 29, 2023 at 11:19 am #25334Have you considered their tracker tariff? That’s saved me a fortune this year

June 29, 2023 at 12:32 pm #25336Good point, just had a quick look, Octopus Tracker product/service is available from the 1st July so worth another look as I believe wholesale prices are still going in the right direction.
From what I can recall, only Loyal Octopus 12M Fixed or Flexible Octopus tariffs was available for us to select at the time.
Was your tracker via the beta for Octopus?

June 29, 2023 at 7:08 pm #25341I believe my new tariff is active now also, not sure how as it said started 1st July but maybe they decided to start it earlier.
I submitted a gas reading, much lower than they estimated so the web interface said was a problem and needed to contact them.
I messaged them on twitter only to get 2 emails the following morning saying reading received… and a reply on my twitter to say the reading had gone through… bit odd.
I suspect they will now “verify” it as it seems as a new tariff they are going to contact my “old supplier” who is them anyway.. think there emails need a bit more updating/automating correct as seems a generic email if you sign up to new tariff or switch suppliers…
Still new rates are better that current rates so all good. Just got to wait first bill to get my S/S updated.

July 1, 2023 at 8:57 pm #25369WTH, I Just signed up for the Octopus Tracker and am on the waiting list
Had the following form Octopus today, looks like I am on my way to signing up to a tracker tariff.
———–
Hi xxxxxx,
Good news – we’ve checked your smart meter and we’re ready to start your switch to Tracker.
Complete this form to finish signing up to Tracker. We’ll ask you to confirm whether you want Tracker for electricity, gas, or both, and ask you to sign our tariff T&Cs.
After you’ve filled out the form, we’ll transfer your account to Tracker on 7th July. However, we’ll back date this so that you’re billed on Tracker from 1st July.
If you don’t accept the terms by 6th July 23:59, we’ll assume you don’t want to switch to Tracker. We’ll be removing the waitlist after 1 July, and website sign ups will reopen in early July, so you can always reapply via our website at any time.
Before you confirm your switch, we wanted to remind you of Tracker’s quirks:
Energy prices on Tracker change daily based on fluctuations in the wholesale market. Your daily standing charge remains the same each day.
Your prices are calculated using a set formula, and we’ll give reasonable notice if any changes are made to this formula.
We’ll create your bills based on half-hourly meter readings when available. If this data is missing at the point of billing we’ll use industry coefficients to estimate your consumption.
If you haven’t heard from us by 10th July, please contact to get in touch and confirm your tariff switch
Tracker features Price Cap Protect, which caps the maximum daily price at 100p / kWh for electricity and 30p / kWh for gas – keep in mind that’s a lot higher than the Ofgem Energy Price Cap.
Tracker is a beta product. Some things may not work the first time, and installations and processes may take longer than we’d like. Third party tech like In-home Displays won’t always work, and on occasion data issues with smart meters can take significant time to fix or prevent things from working at all.
ÂYou can read more about how Tracker works on our FAQs and Terms and Conditions page.
If you have any issues with the above, just reply to this email and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

July 2, 2023 at 11:41 pm #25381Are Octopus Energy still giving ÂŁ50 ‘refer a friend’?
I was with Octopus Energy before joining OVO Energy as they offered ÂŁ50 bill credit for new customers (no longer available now).
