Hi all,
So having moved to FTTP, I’ve also setup VOIP. I have a gigaset box and it works fine BUT if power goes out OR I turn the box off, when it comes back online, it fails to register with provider.
I have to go in and change the port to use (even though I’ve added the port configured to firewall on ASUS router) and then it connects almost immediately and remains connected and working with no issues.
How can I make it re-connect by itself rather than having to change the settings all the time? Power at my place can go off randomly at any time due to overhead cables. Usually a matter of seconds, unless a big storm then can go on and off several times or be off for a period of time if caused damage etc.
Thanks
Kev

August 9, 2022 at 7:31 pm #20526Could it be something as simple as the Gigaset box powers up and tries to connect before the asus router is up and connected? I’d have though the Gigaset box would try periodically to re-connect though.
Thanks
Kev

August 9, 2022 at 7:50 pm #20527Just test it on your own!
Turn off power on main-fuse and on again.
If an additional power off after router is running and connected again on your Gigaset solves your problem use a 5 min. delayed power-on switch on you Gigaset.
Might be because of different IP after power down?
Reducing DHCP-leases could solve it too, just try it.You need to login in order to vote
August 9, 2022 at 8:06 pm #20533ok thanks, just wondered if anyone else had come across the issue before but will test it.
Thanks

August 9, 2022 at 9:08 pm #20534INTERESTING, I Would if not already assign the Gigaset box a static IP address and manually configure the required port via the ASUS.
My thoughts also that the Gigaset box would retry again and that is what I have seen online.
Are you using IPv6 ?
If IPv4, NAT can be an issue and SIP ALG should be turned off for VoIP ?
As @Grisu suggested, alas a little trial and error as not much info on the web regarding this ‘feature’

August 10, 2022 at 6:21 pm #20535Hi, Gigaset box is fixed IP, ipv4, not using ipv6.
Asus has configured to allow the ports I originally specified.
I’ll check sip alg, didn’t see that option so will check if its on or off.
Thanks

If I understand you correctly, does this also happen if Gigaset box is rebooted (no power outage) as I am wondering if ASUS router has sticky ports, maybe try enabling UPnP to see if that helps (but is a port security risk) ?
Also is static IP address manual enterd ontp Gigaset device as maybe better to assign a reserved IP address via ASUS routers ‘Manual Assignment’ DHCP.

August 11, 2022 at 7:20 pm #20546Thanks, Ip is static assigned on Gigaset box and is outside of DHCP scope. I’ll have to try power cycling the gigaset whilst router is on and see if it comes back up or not.

That is key I feel as will help identify, as you say, Gigaset box is booted and ready before router is fully operational

Did you have any luck with your Gigaset box and power recycling?

September 20, 2022 at 8:41 pm #20940Hi,
So slightly odd. the box didn’t connect again so I did the usual change of port and all is well again.
So now scenario is gigaset box is set to use different ports to that I specifically allowed on router firewall (thinking this was causing a issue).
However, it appears it is not the firewall as the issue occurred again so this time I powered off the gigaset box, waited couple seconds, powered it back on and its then registered all is ok.
So for some reason, it would appear gigaset box boots up before router and only tries once to register with provider and then stops as when power cycled, it registers fine as router is already up and working.
Gigaset is hardwired to the router also so not like wifi is a issue or anything.
But thankfully, its is a easy fix and it looks like I can do away with my router firewall rule as not required.
