The 15 Pro and Pro Max gets new A17 Pro chip, iPhone 15 runs on A16 – I am sure it is more than a coincidence .

October 29, 2023 at 9:57 pm #27782Hi all,
So bought a iPhone 15 today, have to say though, transfer from Android to iPhone could be a bit better. First off, I found some instructions online via Apple saying to turn on Bluetooth, did that – didn’t find either phone…
Ended up finding another guide saying use the Move to IOS, had to do manual setup and then choose From Android to move data and it only moves certain things – ticked them all and let it go. I did remove a lot of pictures before hand (downloaded to PC) to make it a bit quicker due to quiet a few pics and was using 64GB of space on old phone.
The move worked BUT it didn’t setup any of my email accounts stored in Bluemail App that i use on iPhone mail only added 2 Gmail accounts in iPhone mail and not in the Gmail app that they were in, even though it did download the Gmail app.
A lot of apps it never downloaded either so I had to go manually either download or search and download.
Taken me a while to re-setup the apps with user names, passwords, IDs etc.
One app i was dreading actually ended up being ok, not as bad as I thought. The others meant finding the details again.
Also got a case deleted today and that seems ok so far.
My biggest ear was the iPhone volume level when on a call as on my previous iPhone a long tie ago – iPhone 6 – the volume was pretty quiet even on max setting. This one though seems much better so far – only had 1 automated verification phone call so far so early days but was much better than I remember.
Overall not too bad so far. When I switched from Apple to Samsung, i used a app and it moved pretty much all apps apart from ones not available on Android and I may of needed to setup email as I had to find a email client to use.

October 30, 2023 at 8:26 am #27787I am jealous, so all your pictures and numbers transferred across ok ? did you text messages also get transferred ?
emails are always tricky I have found with iOS migrations and passwords sometimes do not transfer either.

October 30, 2023 at 10:00 pm #27790No need to be Jealous, its only a iPhone 15 – not a Pro or anything just the “entry” level with 128GB capacity. I was using approx. 64 gig on my last phone but I reduced the pictures from around 1k down to about 100, of which I’m sure a lot of them could be removed also but was taking too long to go through 1k photos to select the ones I didn’t need so went for the obvious ones :) Currently using just over 34GB in total which must include the iOS and any config etc it requires.
Yes, Pictures, contacts and text messages all came across, weirdly it seemed 1 text message didn’t but it appeared today, even though I know I got it yesterday morning lol.
I am now having fun and games with emails….
One of my email accounts has ActiveSync so it pushes emails to me as opposed to me having to go in and refresh to get new emails.
on the mail app, push is enabled under Fetch but the only option i have on my mailbox is Fetch or manual. No push. It is set to Fetch and automatic but still I don’t get emails until i open the mail app and then it syncs or I pull down to make it refresh new content.
I’ve tried to set the account up as Exchange but after getting to the screen that says enter email and description and click next, it then reverts back to the Add Account page where i can choose iCloud, google, exchange, yahoo, AOL, other etc. So only way to get email is to go other and setup the account using IMAP which is how it was set on bluemail on android but that did receive push so not too sure. I’ve contact my provider to see if they know anything, I’m wondering if maybe I need to some how de-register/remove mail off old device to get this one working or if there is something they need to do… or maybe its a bug in IOS 17? Not sure yet but quiet annoying to not get notifications of new emails when they arrive and think oh no emails yet then you go in later and find a load just come in and at earlier times.
Case I got is not too bad – has a little stand built in so i can stand it up, bit stiff, though was going to break it lol. Also has a belt clip but wont be using that as no need. It’s a case that covers the whole phone so effectively front phone clips into the front part then it all clips into the back part providing all over protection.
Just noticed also that the iPhone now shows manufacture date of battery – Aug 2023, first use Oct 2023… don’t recall it ever showing that before but it has been a while since I owned a iPhone, previous one was a iPhone 6, then switched to Android. Cheap Android, Motorola for a bit and then went Samsung.
It shows Physical sim and also says Available Sim separately with a different number, is this what they refer to as a eSim?

I used the email App Airmail, great and very flexible, but does cost.

iPhone 15 Models Sold Outside U.S. Still Have Physical SIM Card Tray as well as supporting eSIM, and can support more than one number being used. Is your preferred/main number on a SIM card ?

October 31, 2023 at 11:18 am #27792The esim option is an absolute gem whilst travelling. I just install a cheap local esim via an app such as airalo which I enable for data whilst roaming and saves an absolute boatload versus roaming, given the much reduced amount of places with inclusive roaming since leaving the EU.
such an easy way to save cash and so simple to install/delete esims whilst still keeping your main number available in addition.

October 31, 2023 at 4:31 pm #27794Adding to that, eSIMs also enable you to use two different numbers on the same device which is great so you could have a business number and personnel number on the same iPhone

An eSIM can only be installed on a single device so not a good idea to delete.

October 31, 2023 at 9:29 pm #27798Hi all,
So I have 1 issue with my new phone – I’m unable to add an email account via Exchange mail as I have activesync set on my mailbox and hence emaisl are pushed to me so i know when i get the email as opposed to manually openign the app and refreshing etc,
When i add an account I choose:-
Exchange
it asked for my email & descrption, enter it in.
I then get a pop up message configure manually or signin.
Choosing configure manually, it disappears after couple of seconds and takes me back the Add account options i.e icloud, exchange, yahoo, aol etc
If o choose sign in, it says verifying… for a short time then goes back to Add Accounts.
It wont bring up the next page asking me to fill in pswd, domain etc etc which I believe it is supposed to.
I’ve contacted my provider and they say as I am not getting to the next screen, it is not even trying to contact them to setup the mail on the phone so looks to be a IOS 17 issue I presume?
I can setup via IMAP but its not doing the push, i have to manually keep checking…
Anyone have any ideas or seen this as a issue so far?
My only other option is to setup a different email client on the phone but was hoping to use the mail app built in as have done previously.

November 1, 2023 at 3:52 pm #27800According to the below article, the iPhone default mail client does support ActiveSync
I did read that iOS 17.1 has fixed a few of the iOS Exchange Active Sync problems, which release are you running ?

November 1, 2023 at 9:13 pm #27824Hi,
I’m running 17.01 – latest and greatest.
So the plot thickens on this…..
I been in contact with hosting provider and it appears we have sorted it.
So to summaries, If you go Add Account -> Exchange
enter in a “main stream” email provider i.e gmail, BT etc – it asked to config manually or sign in, go config manually, it takes you to the page to then enter in server address, login details etc.
IF i enter my own email via my domain which is hosted by a hosting provider, it doesn’t progress. I suspect this is because when it does that initial check, it isn’t on some kind of main stream server list it wants to check against.
So the trick this this….
go Add Account -> Exchange
Enter in a main stream email provider address if you have one i.e. a gmail or BT etc address.
It then proceeds and then enter in your own domain hosting providers details i.e. so hosting providers server address, login details etc.
It then proceeds to accept them and bingo – emails come through.
I then had to turn on alters for the mailbox and now i appear to be getting notifications on my phone when I get new email without having to open the mail app or refresh, albeit I always leave the mail app running just lock the phone so seems to be all sorted now.
