So an interesting little exercise, Our Octopus Energy balance account has way to much credit left over from the mild Winter so we have decided to reduce the outstanding balance by requesting a credit withdrawal of a few hundred pounds.
Octopus Energy Account has the option to “can I refund some credit” and working through a couple of the options, I have requested a small credit refund.
The message from Octopus Energy after you have completed the credit request (below) seems to suggest the process will take between 5-10 working days before credit refund is received in bank accounts.
Must say if this does work, most impressed in how simply this online process was
“We have your refund request, and we’re working on it. You should receive the money within 5-10 working days”

June 8, 2024 at 4:03 pm #32456I did the same with a previous supplier, it was a small energy company and I had built up a bit or extra cash so that when winters come, if they were particularly cold, I’d not have to worry about finding the money as I had credit on my account. However, when the energy companies started to have issues, I basically request about 50% of the money back as i had to leave x months of DD payments in the account, which was a little odd but accepted it as they were a small firm and it was very easy, quick email to them and they replied saying yes, would be back in x days and sure enough it was.
not had that issue since, however as winters been a bit colder that they were previously so hence used more heating so not a lot carries over atm, also as prices have gone up, i tend to now pay what they say rather than pay a bit above to allow for any over spend so to speak.

June 8, 2024 at 4:05 pm #32457Worst company I had for bill is water company, they bill me basically annual and say we predict you will use this and will cost you this for the next year so we charging you x per month, then at some point they up there rates and at the end o the year I always owe them money… not sure why they don’t re-calculate the cost and say due to increased in prices, we expect it to cost you x so we are increasing your DD by x amount to cover it, as opposed so leaving it and then I owe them money. Fortunately its never too much but still annoying, I prefer to not owe money and if they owe me money or I have a few quid cred that’s all fine with me.

I have done this before with Octopus, and it worked without any issues for me.

So that was around 5 working days which is great news.
