That does not sound promising from your perspective, maybe worth a telephone call with BT to see why the G.fast is no longer available ? Would be interesting to understand why they are no longer offering G.fast ?
Yeah I asked when I was on the phone to them and told they had no idea why it’s not offered any more, they said It’s Openreach’s call and they dont usually update them. Interestingly Openreach’s own site still shows 330Mb G.fast available when you put the house details in, of course not as accurate but it’s a strange one. Either way I’m not getting locked into another contract when I’m due to renew soon, I’ll probably try get a rolling monthly contract on the go for now until something changes.
(The draytek has been rock steady holding since I put it in now, still showing the 127db line attenuation but getting 200mb download speeds and no recorded line resyncs – however CRCs are showing its ugly head).

I posted these not long ago, the first one was when I was told my contract was coming to an end so I checked the wholesale, the 2nd is current results. To note as well, I assume all ISPs use the wholesale checker as Shell was offering me 250mb+ a month ago with a better speed guarantee, now Shell is offering me 80mb max too and other G.fast providers have also lowered their packages on offer.

Nope original G.fast install was just a Master socket change and a G.fast faceplate filter. I’m borrowing a telescopic ladder to get up and check the jelly crimps myself just waiting for a friend to drop the ladder off.
Yep, telephone pole about 10m dropwire to the junction box on the house, and then about 6-8m of CW1308 cable to the inside. I’ve got 2 cabinets both roughly 100m as the crow flies, both under 200m if you follow the roadways assuming thats where the ducting is, so the signal attenuation makes no sense to me, especially with a clear phone noise test in the test socket.
My contract with BT is up in 20 days according to the website, and they’re now only offering VDSL by the looks of it (see attached)… I’m assuming there’s external factors here that are far out of my control. Their fibre promise is laughable as “G.fast is available in this area, its not a fibre priority so 2026 is the target installation date”.

Something not correct with that value Good to see you have the option for G.fast and Line stats look good apart from Attenuation, does the actual DrayTeK now work without being connected to HH ?
Yep the draytek worked from the start – I just plugged in the HH for BT to run some “tests” as they couldnt see a HH connected so they were basically unable to do anything from their end. They also marked my line having a fault but theres no resolution or predicted resolution on the fault status. I was going to leave the HH, but it performed an update in the middle of the night, and basically the logs were showing 0.0db for everything and disconnects started happening again. I’m not quite ready to get an engineer out and pay that silly fee again like last time.
I’m not sure if I shown this before but I’m wondering if this is the cause of some issue as well…..
It’s been a fair while since BT16A junction boxes were used right lol. It’s not even under an eaves its just on the side of the house exposed.

I’ve connected the Draytek Vigor back up as the homehub was working fine for a few days, until it updated itself – interestingly my Signal attenuation shows as 0.0 / 0.0 db on the HH not the 39ish that the Asus shown, and the draytek Shows 127db for line attenuation now. I’m assuming they use different algorithms to work it out or its a ridiculous glitch.
The Draytek is running in Modem and Router mode not a bridge (but I can’t connect any wired devices just yet) So I’m running wifi connection, managed to get IPv6 working as the Asus was incompatible with BT / Openreach’s implementation of IPv6 /56 I believe.
I’m fully connected and VLAN is 101, DSL light does the usual blink until its connected and then steady.
Here’s the VLAN TAG page (note it has customer TPID 0x8100 and Service TPID 0x8100 sections, which only one works at a time, I’ve made successful connection using both – the Service VLAN 101 was the default enabled VLAN Tag which according to draytek is the one to use as its BT only firmware once it detects the G.fast Line)
I’ve also got an option for the Modem Code, it connects using either of these and I can’t see any information regarding the correct one or a difference infact if i manually change them. (highlighted in red also)

Comes under the PPPoE/PPPoA details page, even though it says ADSL settings, that’s where the manual shows to change G.fast settings / VDSL settings too. Theres no specific option for PPPoE as annotated in the pic. However it does establish connection, gives me an IP and has internet access but under stats it shows G.Fast PPPoA. Weird one eh Draytek support havnt got back to me and theres little info about it anywhere.

PPPoE is the one and VLAN ID is 101
Yep what I thought, but weirdly theres no option to change it the drop down is PPPoA only in the list and it connects as that. It’s strange, also the online manual hasn’t been updated for a while so it doesn’t reflect the latest firmware and options. im just plugging it in now (minus actual dsl connection) just to show the settings pages.

Well little update, I played with the Draytek before I went back to the Homehub – mean with the constant drops DLM had already beat my line into submission I figured whats the worst that could happen right lol. The draytek connected on the latest recommended BT firmware, but I noticed it auto detected G.fast and when I put the VLAN ID in as 101 for openreach, It’s showing PPPoA with no option to change (even though it does come under settings of PPPoE/PPPoA) would this be an issue? There was connection established and internet access, but before I redid my entire network I decided to go back to the HH as if I try anything via BT it says “we cant find your hub”.
tldr; draytek connects as PPPoA when I thought it should be PPPoE, is this an issue?
Hope every one is well!

Definitely the best option to get underlying issue fixed
DrayTeK , very reliable
Yeah I was going to go for the just the basic modem option for G.fast the 160 model, but would mean getting another router or moving the RTAX82U I have and then getting a 2nd one for here. but the difference between the Modem only and the full router with wireless unit was only something like an extra ÂŁ30. Plus im looking forward to actually using a workable QoS and IPv6 again!. Glad to be rid of this AC88U, and with full telnet access and it supports FTTP it’s a no brainer to switch coming from this lemon.
Saw plenty for sale on ebay, but I couldn’t sell it to somebody else and screw them over. instead Amazon can take it up with Asus.

Well I actually spoke to amazon, as the DSL-AC88U was under 12 months old, they’ve refunded me for it and I’ll be getting a Draytek 2766AC (G.fast and FTTP compatible which is why I went for it, considering it was the same price as what I paid for the DSL-AC88U it seems like a win win)
It’ll be delivered today with a Zyxel Switch. Just waiting on a crimping tool to come as well and looks like I’ll have a busy day ahead. I’m still going to run the HH I think for a short time and then contact bt again to arrange an engineer.

It’s actually not bad the way it is right now, never had a problem gaming or anything, im pretty much the only user for heavy traffic. my dad just does generic internet browsing, and then I’m the only other person on the network, The network itself is fine apart from the dsl drops as of recent.
I spoke to BT About an hour ago. he counted the resyncs and couldn’t wrap his head around it, he didn’t know what line attenuation and SNR was so he went straight to booking an engineer. I said let me try some more things before that stage (gonna have to run the homehub for a little while which is gonna be nice setting up static IPs alllllll over again).
he could see my line had an observed down speed of 240 and 35 up at one previous point just a few weeks ago, but was showing 160/27 to him now. I feel like DLM has lowered my profile band.
Then gave me the “well your speed  guarantee is 150mb so there’s not a problem really.” Well there is when I’ve been running fine over 200mb down for 2 years and now this with constant line drops and you want to charge me more in a month when my contract ends to give me a lower service that’s not even reliable. Pffft yeah right.

Oh yeah Im planning to. Only dilemma is I’m actually due for FTTP in this quarter from DI – BEunlimited. They’re touching areas openreach won’t. They were out in the street a couple weeks ago measuring up from the telephone pole, I said jokingly you giving me fibre? and he said Yep thats the plan. I Was like oh sweet jesus haha. So I’ll probably invest in things like cabling and the switch, and keep the Asus / homehub instead of forking out for something to use for 2-3 months (hopefully).

like ur diagram mate I made a diagram as well and how i would have done it and used ur asus rt in ap mode
haha cheers, Yeah its in AP mode running a Merlin fork, forgot to mention that. I’ve got a spool of CAT 6A and connectors on its way tomorrow, and a few meters of Cat 7 just to check it out I’m going to sort things out and buy a proper switch like you mention.
I’ve also just noticed the BT Wholesale checker is available to use again.. This is out of my control by the looks of things if you compare these two images.

What an absolute masterpiece if I do say so myself, haha. This is the basic gist of it. Havent had any coverage issues or bandwidth issues as its just 2 of us here, and its a good job anyway cause the QoS on the DSL-AC88U is…. lacking to say the best.

Just saw you created a new thread but the reply has been moved to its own – feel free to delete it I’ll repost here.
Right now at this moment reliable connection and FTTP please, haha..
Basically the way I’ve always ran is a Main modem/router at the master socket at the centre of the house, this runs a 2.4G network for older devices, and some wired devices running off it to the left side of the house, then a wired secondary router one room over (roughly 20 feet) the “primary” activity room with multiple wired devices, and 5G network running off this one. I’m also using a single pihole as my DNS server – was originally two and will be added back at some point.
The secondary router ideally is where the gaming, heavy streaming and most bandwidth is used. The primary router is just for legacy devices and a Sky Q mini box in the living room.
Budget isn’t too much of an issue if it’s going to last me a long time like my trusty Netgear Nighthawks did before I moved to G.fast. I’d like to avoid wireless extension type set ups, and overkill “GAMINGGGGGG” routers, you know the ones I mean, Slap Xbox or playstation compatible on it and people will buy it for ÂŁ399
I’ll knock up a rough sketch.
