Hi,
So chase is dropping cashback on anything other than groceries, transport and fuel from 7th April so been looking for alternatives to still get cashback as kind of got used to it now. Admittedly not much but all adds up,
I’ve gone with amazon barclaycard as I use amazon a reasonable amount, downside is cashback is via gift cards only in ÂŁ5 multiples but not too bad, i can choose to save it up and get a larger gift card later, will see how it goes plus as I’m a prime member if nothing else might use it towards the yearly fee, have to see. I got ÂŁ30 gift card for signing up so will come in handy. I’m not expecting a massive amount back as will likely be penny per shop. I also get 0.5% elsewhere for 1 year dropping to 0.25% after, 2% on special amazon days/events. I’m hoping to split stuff between this and chase to get cashback on most things I buy.
Might be worth considering if anyone is in similar position using amazon :)

less than ÂŁ1 lol but it al helps. Cashback on my card is ending early April and then it will only be on certain items/shops so means I wont get it on a fair bit of my purchases but I will on others. So overall I wont make as much in cash back for example, When I bought mum her iPhone i got a few quid back but going forward that wont count so I will get 0 back. However buying food in supermarkets I believe will still count so I’ll get small cashback there.

So I’ve changed my email, verified it and now bought the plex pass. Purchase has qualified for cashback so makes it *slightly* cheaper but not much but every penny helps :)
Time will now tell if it continues to play as normal now or if I need to buy Infuse.

yeah.
So I’ve decided to purchase the plex pass as still unclear if it will/wont affect playback on lan etc and after end of April, the price more than doubles so might as well buy it now and then see how it goes. Hopefully Plex will still play the content but if not, then I’ll have to get Infuse but as far as I know, the price of that isn’t going up so can buy that after.
Also main driving factor is my cashback on purchases is ending in early April so going to get it now whilst I will hopefully still get some cash back on it I hope. Also need to figure out how to change my plex email address as I used a free email account for it but now it will have payment details associated, I will see if I can change my email to my regular one so I can get any info etc as my free one I check very very randomly as I don’t have anything of importance going to it.

Been 6 months since I updated the nas and I guess not ideal for security reasons and who knows when synology will force the update to 7.2.2 as 7.2.1 is out of support so made sense to update, will now have to see what I can find out from here. Worst case I’ll have to by both apps to ensure can continue viewing as is, only good thing is at least they are one time costs and not a yearly cost etc.

Nas is now updated, tried couple of content and plays ok, will have to try it some more over next week and see what if anything doesn’t work.
I was expecting some contact to stop working but it may just be in a format the appletv can play so hard to tell.

I guess if I need to pay plex pass then its not too bad, just annoying infuse is paid app too :(

YEs, that was my understanding too BUT since synology is stopping transcoding on there devices and pushing it to the client device, I suspect in my case, the nas wont do the transcoding, even if I purchased plex pass?
I’m just looking at the synology update i have – it seems some people had issues with the 7.2.2-72806 update 3 so slightly wearing now although it been out a month now.
Plus I stumbled upon a link which shows upgrade steps for Synology from 7.2.1 to 7.2.2. I have also updated plex on 7.2.1 to latest version incase that helps with the update process any. Tested it after update and still plays on TV so all good. Now to see what happens after updates.
I am running 7.2.1-69057 Update 6 and i need to download and install in following sequence:-
7.2.1-69057 Update 7 (nas never prompted me for this update)
7.2.2-72806
7.2.2-72806 Update 3
Looking in Synology control panel for updates, it shows I can download 7.2.2-72806 Update 3 and install so not sure who is right or wrong but I’m following synology website. I already downloaded 7.2.2-72806 Update 3 in control panel so now doing a manual install for 7.2.1 Update 7

yeah, got my finger ready to upgrade but just not sure i should, been reading the update breaks plex and only download links available if have plex pass (but someone has linked to it) makes me wonder should i wait but brings 2 concerns:-
- only got to end April till price rises if i nee to buy it
- NAS has not got any security etc updates since 7.2.1 so not overly ideal so thinking maybe I should but don’t want to stuff myself have to spent ages getting plex working after…
Synology points to using infuse (which is fine) but doesn’t say if plex pass needed or not but was written prior to there announcement regarding plex pass price rises etc.

think might update nas tonight and see what the result is.
If I’m correct, I’m assuming plex will still work but may not play some films but then if i buy Infuse, it probably will play all. Unknown factor is do I need a plex pass to use infuse going forward. ATM i suspect not but come end of April, its unclear. SO means effectively spending 200 – bit steep…. I guess work around is I could potentially use just standard SMB playback from network share OR I use a different bank end and infuse as the client as the nas wont do transcoding and I don’t have anything else I can use for it so it has to come from the nas.

Been looking online, seems a mixed bag of opinions, some say jellyfin, some say jellfin doesn’t work so well via appletv and strutters during playback etc…. Other say infuse but seems unclear whether if I paid for infuse, I’d also need a plex pass for local network playback. I never playback content remotely via mobile, tablet etc, its always local network to a tv or appletv so remote streaming doesn’t bother me at all as never needed to do that. Only issue with infuse is its apple only so no android but I have appleTVs so not a huge issue atm but later on down the line when TVs get better, I may decide to drop appleTVs and use apps on the TV itself. At the moment, the plex app on tv is so so, it works but after i exit the app and go back to normal TV, it then doesn’t allow me to change TV channel, just says no channel, I have to power the TV off via wall socket and turn back on to be able to do it. I suspect issue is the fire tv tbh and its pretty slow to bring up menus etc, hasn’t changed much despite updates.

hmm looking at this page under recommended, doesn’t show it.. https://jellyfin.org/downloads/clients
if you change to all then it shows it but says Beta so would imply they don’t “recommend” it?

Thanks, so question then is, would infuse (paid version) do that? so if I kept Plex (free version) on nas for media library and linked infuse (paid version) to it, would that work or would i need plex (paid for) and infuse (paid for)?
I believe jellyfin takes time to setup on nas and not straight forward and it isn’t as good as plex so not sure its worth going down that route?
