Was thinking of the RT‑BE86U but no doubt will be a newer version out before end of next year so will see.
Main issue is really the cost, spending nearly ÂŁ300 and it lasts approx. 5 years is a bit costly and like now it can be had for around ÂŁ200 but possibly only 2 or 3 years life left so will see. The TPlink ones are cheaper so will have to see at the time, whether I go ASUS router or tplink or alternative.
Thanks

Thanks, I head ready you need to disable a setting on your router but I did that and still no change. Maybe if I change my routers, I’ll setup a different SSID/pswd, I plan to split the 2.4 and 5ghz bands, at the moment its the same and it connects on either 2.4 or 5ghz but I think that causes some devices to keep jumping between the 2.
My guest WIFI I’ll keep the same, I got I think most if not all my IoT devices on that. I need to check them before I make the changes or I’d setup a 2nd guest network with the old existing SSID/pswd in hopes it reconencts.
Thanks.

Thanks all. Would use my existing router in AI Mesh but I don’t have a location to place it apart from on the floor and its likely to get damaged.
I presume the BE routers will be the same 5 year lifecycle?
I not had any issues with my existing Asus routers so I’m happy to buy the same make, its just I tend to leave the firmware updates for a while as always seems to be issues reported and now I think I’m well over a year behind.
Which models to the VLans? I’ve also noticed the price is a fair bit more for Asus, the BE86 was nearer ÂŁ300 when it came out but is now nearer ÂŁ200 but that’s likely due to it being 3 years old and only 3 years left in lifecycle so I’d sooner but a newer model which I suspect there will be one before Dec 2027 when mine are due to go EOL I beleive.
Also, Am I correct in thinking if I get a new router, if I set up the same SSID and pswd, the devices will auto connect to it?
Reason I ask is I have set the same SSID on my AX86U at parents place and the same SSID on my AX86s however when I go between the 2 properties, I have to manually select the WIFI on my devices, it wont auto connect almost like it knows its different some how? Once I connect I can go and come back to that property and it auto connects but when I go to the other I have to select it to connect the first time then its ok until I go back to other property I have to select it again…
It seems to some how know its different and won’t connect.
When I had BT routers, I setup the same SSID and pswd and that just connected at both properties, no questions asked.
I don’t want to have to re-set up smart plugs and nest etc to reconnect to my WIFI again, I’m hoping it auto connects.

Hi,
Thanks. I thought about that but unfortunately I don’t have anywhere that is midway between the 2 locations to put the Router apart from on the floor which isn’t ideal. Hence I thought of the ranger extender as I can plug it into a socket and leave it plugged in.
I suspect the RT-AX86s and U are probably EOL soon, I believe maybe end of 2027 from a quick look online?
Not sure what to go with next router wise, the BE86U looks similar and price has dropped but I noticed it came out in 2024 so means already 2 years into its life cycle so maybe only another 2 or 3 years before that is EOL.
Wondering whether to go with TPLink BE range instead as the Asus ones have been ok, albeit quiet a few bugs etc people have found and I’m not too sure about using AIMesh as I seem to see a lot of reports of when routers updated, the AIMesh has issues with it dropping etc so hence thought just a standard extender might be better?
Thanks

Thanks, looks good, but might be a bit overkill for me ATM as I’ve got a Henry hoover ATM that does the job fine for normal vacuuming, it was just to get a little hand held one for the odd little thing as opposed to getting the henry hoover out each time.
Definitely a option to consider in the future though.
Thanks

yes, very odd as nothing has changed… maybe it will fix itself at some point…

Can’t test PC with hotspot as it has no wifi as its a desktop PC, not laptop.
Will log out of my profile today and then check tomorrow when I’m back on to see if it makes any difference as I tend to remember my login which it does for a certain time then it reverts to needing to login again :)
Might try creating a new profile and see after the above out of curiosity.
I’m assuming nothing obvious shows on any logs when I login?

Yes agreed, the other option is to get a Homeypro mini but it all depends how your devices communicate. The Pro has more communication channels i.e. thread, matter, zigbee etc whereas the mini has less and would then mean buying the homeybridge to give the additional communication channels that’s not in the mini but that means 2 devices, 2 power supplies etc albeit is cheaper to buy the mini & the bridge than the pro but I quiet like the idea of it all in 1 device.
Only annoying thing is having to buy the USB-C to ethernet adapter as the pro doesn’t have built in ethernet port, seems a bit of a oversight, considering the mini has built in Ethernet port… maybe the next homeypro will be have built in. However considering they say will support till June 2031 the homeypro 2026, effectively gives it 5 years support so in 5 years time, I’m guessing I’d have to then by 2 x homeypro2031’s which is somewhat of a downside considering the cost. They also don’t say whether the existing homeypro2026 will continue to work after this date or if features/abilities will be cut off and no longer work. For instance like Google, the older thermostats no longer work remotely but I believe will work within the property but they have stopped remote access part, which was the big selling point of the system.

Good decision, I think paying off the mortgage is sensible option and I think most people use inheritance for this or at least part of this. Yes, legacy is a big thing especially with the way things are going here, with AI etc, what jobs will be out there for the younger generation.
Personally I’m not married or have any kids so I don’t have to worry about ensuring family is provided for so to speak, obviously if I won lottery or similar then that would then be either use it to provide a better/more comfortable/work/life balance as potentially could get a lower paid job if required so spend more time with family as wouldn’t need to be chasing the money aspect etc.

Looks like I’ll need to get 2 so can control myself and parents place easily through 1 screen. It seems there is homeylink that will like 2nd one to main one and show devices etc.
Bit annoying having to pay for 2 and they only advising this model be supported to 2031 so means another expense every few years to keep it current etc…
Another possible option is if I connect vpn to at my place from parents then it might see my devices but unsure if I turn vpn off, it might not work as I suspect no ports opened up at my place so would need vpn perm connected. Not sure that’s a good idea.

home AV not changed, no new software installed, no plugins or extension in brave installed, mobile was on WIFI and worked ok. Rather strange.

Homey pro 2026 is ÂŁ399, previous version is ÂŁ349 I believe and you can access remotely, I believe it sets all that up out the box but then I’ve also seen might need port forwarding enabled so not 100% sure yet. Considering later in the year when might be some discounts fingers crossed.

Thanks. Cant connect PC to hotspot as its desktop pc and no wifi.
hmm strange as vie not updated router or made any changes, maybe isp/dns issue as my router does disconnect and get a new ip etc periodically as I don’t have a fixed ip for internet.
Thanks
