Thanks all.
Is the router easy to setup with a draytek 130? I presume i access the draytek 130, enter in ISP info and then connect router once modem is connected to DSL? or do i just plug the draytek in and then the router and enter ISP info on the router instead of the modem?
Been a very long time since I had a separate modem and router. Was back when I had ADSL many many years ago.
Not seem much info online about people using these devices, seem some uses with someone have sky and trying to use AX86U.
Thanks

Yes, appreciate internet isn’t quick enough but was thinking might held with the multiple devices being connected, especially as more devices will be wifi 6 compatible in the future :)
Plus access speed for local access :)

Thanks, reason being due to needing to WFH on an doff, can’t really have internet going down frequently :)
So I guess choices are either Asus RT-AX82U or RT-AX86U along with the Draytek 130 modem. How many wifi SSID’s can they have? I was considering setting 1 up for all my internet devices like smart plugs and then having another one purely for tablet/phones/tv etc that way smartplugs can stay on the lower WIFI whilst my other devices could take better use of the faster speeds. Also then have a separate one for Guests maybe. The main setting point is i’d setup the same SSID/pswd for smart devices so as not to need to go round and change them all and then have a different SSID for main devices and then one for visitors/guests to use if required.

Thanks for your replies. It’s the fact it is new and may have some issues for a while that’s a bit concerning especially if it drops internet etc hence wondering to go for the separate modem / router which has been out longer and hopefully less issue?

ah ok thanks, I always thought having extra ram helped and processor would be good for quicker updates and if running VPN from it gives more processing for other tasks too.
Do you think best to wait for the combined DSL AX82U or best to go separate device Draytek 130 and RT-AX82U or RT-AX86U?
Thanks

ah, i saw Asus shows line stats so was hoping it would read them from the draytek modem and display them

I was hoping the line stats would show in ASUS router ideally… to avoid having to connect to the modem directly….

Thanks, I was looking at the RT-AX86U as it looks to be better:-

Will that be compatible on BT infinity in UK? I’m looking online but not seen any posts of people using it with draytek 130 so just want to be sure it will work so can add to my list of options.
Thanks

Thanks, I don’t have a draytek atm, I’m using a BT Smarthub connected to BT Infinity and due to issue with it (keeps dropping connection more frequently that just during the night) im considering changing it so hence trying to decide which is best, get the DSL AX82U or get a draytek 130 and a RT-AX86U maybe? it looks better than the AX82U? will the Dratek 130 work with the RT-AX86U and show the linespeed? if i went seperate modem and router, Would I simply login to the draytek, enter my ISP login info (bt smarthub doesn’t need a pswd or it can be anything i believe) and then just plug it into the RT-AX86U or does the AX86U need the BB login info also?
Thanks

I also presume these are all backwards compatible with older WIFI as some of my wifi devices will only connect to 2.4ghz and my wifi uses WPA2 at the moment. I have a old WeMo insight smartplug, that I believe uses wireless n? and another devices is only compatible with IEEE 802.11b/g/n

hmm so just started looking… the RT-AX82U, RT-AX86U and RT-AX92U…. strangely the RT-AX86U is more expensive than what I assume is the newer RT-AX92U? Also looks like the RT-86U is better? or is that only meant for higher internet speeds?
Sorry for questions, just trying to get the best info to make the best decision rather than regret it after purchase :)
Been years since I looked at routers, lots has changed.
Thanks

Yes, I’m familiar with Asus as a company and there motherboards for PCs but I’ve never had one of there routers before but interface looks pretty good from pictures.
So would you recommend the DSL AX82U or the RT AX82 or RT-AX88, if price difference isn’t too much? Do they work with the Draytek 130/166 modem and show the line info on the router etc or does it work better with a different type of modem? I see the 166 supports VDSL so should work also and provide some future proof in terms of any potential upgrade in future. albeit maybe it will be going to FTTP but wont be for a good few years until prices come down etc, can’t justify the cost atm.
trying to decide what’s best and what to get that will be future proof for a while but also provide a stable connection both wired & wirelessly :)
Thanks

Thanks, never heard of AVM, i’ll take a look and see thanks. I’ve had Asus motherboards etc so familiar with the company but never had one of there routers so will see.

Many thanks, good to know. I’m leaning to wards the AX82U, especially if can be used as a router only without the modem should i ever get FTTP etc.
Thanks
