@Grisu – I was going to ask @sm9cc to check the CPU usage once the other issues had been looked at to determine if VPN speed restriction is CPU / RAM (hardware) related,

Seems like the WiFI setting did the trick, no disconnect on laptop yet, I also just read this so according to that page slow VPN speed is normal and expected, what a shame.

Good news, alas ASUS routers are fairly technical and unlike devices like Netear, do require some adjustments.
