Does anyone seen option in DSL-AC88U for shutdown adsl connection? I canβt find anywhere, I remember it was in my previous router but canβt see in this one.. I asking because I would like to shutdown connection before I process reboot of router. (to not upset DLM)

Just a rant/update; ~6 months later.
I am still trying to use the DSL-AC88U-B as I used my DSL-N55U; as a small low-power “downloadstation/NAS” with transmission-daemon and nzbget to a small external harddrive.
It works, but only for a few hours to a week at most. At that point the DSL-AC88U-B gets stuck, no internet, does not accept new WiFi; I do not remember if it responds to ping at all, or if L2 switching works… most times the router restarts on its own, but a few times it stays unresponsive until I power cycle it.
I tried a “control-test”; not rooting it, for 5+ days and it did not get stuck so I concluded that something in my root process causes it. But I have not been able to isolate it. Also I am still uncertain about the “control-test” because sometimes, 2-3 times, it has run for 5-8 days while being rooted. I have never seen abnormal temps; ~50c / 70c / <50c, at least these are the temps when it is responding.
It got stuck in a slightly different way tonight, in a way I have only caught once before. I lost internet connection, router web interface said connection was still up, devices noir router could ping any internet IP. The router still responded to local requests and I was still conected via SSH, so I htop and saw this:See attached screenshot.
Core 1 was at 100%, but I saw no command/process using any significant CPU time. However, all of those wl phy_tempsense commands look odd. After a couple of seconds, 2 minutes at most, core 2 was at 100% and it crashed; stopped responding and I had to physically power cycle it. That was when I took the screenshot.
Apart from the most recent firmware I have tried with 503 firmware too, but the results are the same.
I paid close to 500 EUR for this product, as well as days worth of tinkering to get it to work and it still does not live up to half of what it is supposed to. My patience is not an infinite resource and I am looking forward to ditching this for another brand that actually works AND supports VDSL2 bonding for less than half the price of the DSL-AC88U-B. Unfortunately I have not found a way to get root on that one yet, but soon I will not need it at all.
The DSL-AC88U is a mistake. The fact that Asus has not acknowledged the IPv6 issues for Β½ a year is telling enough.Attachments:

May I ask how U got entware working as I am also trying to achieve same goal but havenβt been able to figure it out with the DSL AC88U on stock firmware. I have telnet access but havenβt been able to use opt directory or jffs but found data folder which seems to be similar to jffs. I tried the script_usbmount n script_usbhotplug and script_usbumount options with nvram but had no luck. Any help on how you got entware working would be greatly appreciated

There are plenty of βhow toβ pages online, but none of them worked for me. I was using the 583 debug at the time (the one asus sent me and then later emailed me asking where Iβd got it from). If any βhow toβ appears here Iβd be interested in trying again

Format a flash drive with ext2 or ext3. I’m not sure if this is required or just recommended. Note the name of the partition; for thisΒ example I will useΒ entware. Plug the flash drive in the DSL-AC88U.
Entware installation:
1.Telent into the DSL-AC88U.
Probably not necessary, but I put everything into asusware.armΒ directory as I thought AsusWRT would read and execute .asusrouterΒ from there as it does with the “normal” optware install.
mkdir /mnt/entware/asusware.arm
Make /opt/Β a symlink to the entware flash drive:
ln -sf /tmp/mnt/entware/asusware.arm /tmp/opt
Install entware
wget -O -Β http://bin.entware.net/armv7sf-k3.2/installer/generic.sh | sh
Add the entware installation to PATH and run its start scripts
PATH=~/opt/bin:$PATH PATH=~/opt/sbin:$PATH /opt/etc/init.d/rc.unslung start
AndΒ opkg should then work, until the next restart where you will need to do the following to get entware working again.
ln -sf /tmp/mnt/entware/asusware.arm /tmp/opt PATH=~/opt/bin:$PATH PATH=~/opt/sbin:$PATH /opt/etc/init.d/rc.unslung start
I have read on some german forum that .asusrouter script will only get executed if it matches the original that gets created during Asus’ optware install. Makes sense as I could never get a modified .asusrouterΒ to work. I had no luck with script_usbmount either.

So UK Sentinel, donβt bother bugging Asus on my behalf Now, I need to set telnet to be enabled by default, temporarily, until I can get entware+dropbear installed. On the DSL-N55U these variables (script_usbumount, and telnet iirc) were set in nvram, but it looks like they are in some config file on this model. Any pointers?Congrats, I have sent email request for Debug firmware, but will cancel it, how did you get Telnet working on your DSl-AC88U β B ??
PM’ed you. I managed to get all my Entware stuff mostly working. But I did find a method to automount it on usbmount or start. .asusrouterΒ does not seem to get executed if it is modified :/. But so far so good; this has saved my purchase :)
