Welcome, Unsure if you are on ADSL or VDSL, but for wifi, usually best to disable Airtime Fairness (Wireless > Professional) .
It is thought AiProtection could have a bug with buid585, so if you are using AiProtection, best to turn off and then back on and then this should enable it correctly.
Hope this helps ?

Don’t blame you, with NAS, just be aware, the DSL-AC88U does not support –Â link aggregation

November 15, 2018 at 7:13 pm #1475Hi,
Also new here, I have followed various forums including the asus vip one (sad to see that gone). I saw this one being mentioned on a whirlpool post and thought i’d register here :)
Ive had the AC88u for a while, its been quite the journey with its ups and downs. Ive been on firmware 503, until official 585 dropped. Since the update to 585 ive noticed a huge drop in speed/throughput when AI Protection is enabled. On the previous firmware 503 i was getting my full G.Fast connection of 310Mb/315 max. But now im lucky to even reach 90-100Mb. When i disable AI Protection i get full speed again. Im wondering is it worth disabling ai protection until next firmware or would that be a bad idea due to vulnerabilities etc?

Depends on what you are trying to achieve, if you start a new topic, then we can all work thru options there, if any exist?

Welcome. Yes ASUS VIP was a big loss, I also believe the AiProtection is causing throughput issues with Build585 (stock), I have been in contact with ASUS and one of there engineers cannot find any issues with speed reduction.
AiProtection, nice to have, 300Mbps, nice to have, which do you value more? as I would personally take the throughput hit until bug is fixed.
As you are one of those lucky users on G.fast, if you use the ASUS UI – Feedback form and send ASUS a message saying, speeds issue with AiProtection and mention UK Sentinel and tick all check boxes, then I will after you confirm you have done this, I will drop ASUS an email also to advise this is what you are doing, this way they have another DSL-AC88U user with AiProtection throughput issues to look at ;-)

November 15, 2018 at 9:05 pm #1479I had high hopes but sadly this router has been disappointing from start to finish. Unfortunately I don’t think asus are likely to improve the situation anytime soon.
Personally I’ll be looking for a decent black Friday deal and likely replacing this piece of junk.

November 15, 2018 at 9:27 pm #1480I have an RT-AC3200 with AiProtection and Merlin firmware and works like a charm.
I bought the DSL-AC88U and I lose about 25% speed with AiProtection, I feel like Cozak, will be returning this piece of junk if is not fixed within the time I have to return it (2 months left)
And I’m not even using ADSL, I have cable with UPC, I just bought this router because of its better WiFi antennas and future proof, but I feel that I have downgraded my network instead of upgrading it.

November 15, 2018 at 9:34 pm #1481Also, is it normal that the 5GHz chipset is always at high temperatures?
2.4 GHz: 0°C  –  5 GHz: 71°C  –  CPU: 51.571°C
I don’t use 2.4GHz but I have noticed that the 5GHz never goes under 70 Degrees Celsius, is this normal? hell it is cold where the router is sitting, why is it always so hot in it.
Please don’t tell me (or tell me) that this router has a bad heating design, that will automatically make it return it.

November 15, 2018 at 9:44 pm #1482My RT-AC86U (RMerlin) also with AiProtection work well, alas seasoned ASUS Router users know, the DSL’s models are always buggy. They make good workhorses etc, but if you are looking to do anything fancy/serious gaming/NAS etc, best to use separate modem/router.

November 15, 2018 at 9:49 pm #1483So, if you were to go back to an RT series router, besides the RT-AC5300 which one would you choose that supports Merlin and have good 5GHz antennas?
I have the RT-3200 but I don’t like the TriBand for me, I don’t find it useful which makes me believe I should go for the RT-AC3100?

November 15, 2018 at 9:57 pm #1484So, if you were to go back to an RT series router, besides the RT-AC5300 which one would you choose that supports Merlin and have good 5GHz antennas?
If money is no object, then I would go for the new ASUS RT-AX88U and this is newly supported by RMerlin, early days yet for ASUSWRT-Merlin, but 4 core 1.8GHz CPU and 1GB Ram ;)
Edit: Not sure on availability in UK, but is available in Australia etc, so not long to wait.
