Hi Sentinel, I did try that method but the router still reverted back to the setting that I had before flash firmware & factory reset. I managed to factory reset it and setting up the new setting, after holding the reset button for like 20s~30s and have to try multiple time. However, as soon as I reboot or turn off and turn on the modem, the new setting is gone and reverted back to the old setting. it’s kinda weird bug I think.

March 6, 2020 at 10:30 am #6157Interesting, Have you tried using a different browser / PC to factory reset via UI.
Maybe an option to load very old firmware (Version 1.10.04_Build460 ) and see if that does the trick.
With pushing the factor reset button on back of router, I have found with other ASUS models, this has to be repeated several times to actually get working

I tried Edge (Chromium), Firefox and Chrome. I also tried to flash the oldest version I could found on the Asus page but every setting back to the previous setting instead of the factory default page and the only thing that remain changed is the firmware version.
The reset button at the back did work after tried around 5 times but have to hold it kinda longer than usual but then after setting everything up and click reboot or turn off/on then all the new setting will gone haha, so now I guess I just keep it turn on and re-setting it if it got wiped
It kinda bad since I saw your message about ASUS stop support this model

March 6, 2020 at 11:03 am #6160Bad news indeed, Not sure what RMA polices are like in your part of the world, but if you can return it, then this maybe a wise move and think of this as an opportunity ;-)

March 6, 2020 at 6:48 pm #6163Brave chap. PM will be sent (Note: alas your registered email address no longer works) ?
I was unable to check which email I have linked to my forum account (or change it for that matter), so I am unsure, if the TLD is sm9 (dot) dev then the email should be correct, also, sorry for the late response, still looking into hacking this machine and seeing if I can do something with it

April 15, 2020 at 6:34 pm #6430@walshy5050 – welcome, unfortunately the DSL-AC88U does not support AP / AiMesh – it was a bit of kit that ASUS no longer support over a year ago.
Have you had the DSL-AC88U long, can it be returned ?
In reality ASUS offers three options
- AiMesh -not available on DSL-AC88U (both units need to support this option)
- Access Point – Ethernet cable between two routers (set-up via ASUS RP-AC68)
- Repeater – Wifi connection between two routers (set-up via ASUS RP-AC68)
As AiMesh is not supported by DSL-AC88U, then using your ASUS RP-AC68 you should still be able to utilise its Access Point or Repeater functionality (as child) and still keep DSl-AC88U as main router etc?.
Link to youtube which should help clarify the differences and advantages/ disadvantages of each option – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic0bgo_ueQ0

April 21, 2020 at 8:01 am #6598Hi,
I’m finding that I also need ssh access to my AC88U, any chance that you could direct me to where I can use the debug edition of the firmware please ?
Many thanks.

April 28, 2020 at 8:27 am #6797@pavlf buddy, where art thou? Hope you are doing well.
Just reporting in regarding our friendly comp.
After several power outages, I’ve finally managed to get my 88U back to 123 days uptime. It’s at 306MB RAM used, so I’ll probably get 2 months more till it becomes unstable due to memory exhaustion.
How’s yours going?
