All gaming is basically PC now. Have a PS4 (which is next to the main router anyway) but since I moved to 1440p and high framerate monitor I’m not going back. I play Overwatch 2 mostly and as you can imagine if ping spikes happens then it can be annoying in such fast paced action.

We have 1 iPhone Pro (not sure of model it’s afew years old), 2 Android phones and some tablets (2 iPad and 2 Amazon Fire tablets).

Fortunately the BT master socket is almost directly in the middle so placing the main router in the exact middle is easy. I can’t see the GT-AC5300 in stock at Amazon and tbh I think I should atleast get a Wi fi 6 capable router if it’s only going to be one unit (plus if wifi 6 devices enter later). Do you think the GT-AX6000 is a good choice? I don’t think I can persuade us to fork out £450+ on that one AXE16000 unit but the AX6000 is somewhat reasonable. It’s still alot to fork out if range is still bad but the Eero/TP-Link is always going to be sub £300 for 3 units.

As for FTTP speeds, unless BT ever has an insane deal on I’ll never be going for more than 500 and even that is pretty overkill for our needs. I’ll likely just be on the 150 package as I can get that for £27.99 a month.

Also while I have you here, when I was initially googling to see if the DSL version supported merlin this thread came up: https://uktechhub.com/forums/topic/gnuton-and-asus-dsl-ax82u/page/3/#post-14749

Is fifa really going to tell you how good the connection is? From what I know fifa is all p2p so if your opponent is on wifi and/or likely suffering from bufferbloat then the connection will also seem really bad your end. You would need a dedicated server game to really know if I am not mistaken.

The GT-AX6000 is supported by ASUSWRT-Merlin, so should work well and support Cake QoS etc.

The FTTH speeds you indicate are fairly low, so no issues with bandwidth QoS related problems etc.

From a Gaming perspective, we use the Netgear XR500 which has a Geo-Filter, that way we reduce the physical distance between players and server

XR500 not in stock but the XR1000 is and for £209. Worth a shot you think? Don’t know if it has cake or anything like that I’ll look it up.

Maybe worth starting a new topic/thread

Is the DSL-AX82U suitable for 1000/1000 Mbps Internet usage via WAN? I saw that full speed was not achieved in an active topic. It should show an average of 920/920 Mbps in practice, but it has been reported to show less. At the same time, tests on a bad router provided by the operator are achieving full speed

The official FW was installed and the test was conducted with additional features such as QoS and AiProtection disabled.

I would assume the DSL-AX82U using a WAN based connection will not support full 1GB data transfers, but never seen any bench tests to support this, 900 Mbps sounds more realistic given the DSL-AX82U has a 1.5 GHz multi-core CPU.

The fact that the upload speed reaches 920 Mbps but the download speed is in the 700 Mbps range gives me a feeling of a firmware flaw, which is why I wanted to ask.

I will have a chat with ASUS and see what they say

DSL-AX82U can definitely get 920+. Timestamped speedtest below of DSL-AX82U:

That’s is interesting as video is only 3 months old, lots of variables can effect throughput rates, including how busy your connection is, whether the download speeds vary during the course of the day as you maybe on a shared line etc.

It is said that the results did not change even during times when the Internet was not too busy, such as midnight. Are there any other settings you recommend turning off while testing?

Maybe worth while you trying the same test (current settings) at different times of the day, just to see if you are being effected by local network traffic congestion beyond your home etc.

Then if no changes (improvements) on speed, we can disable a few options, maybe ?

Has anyone noticed a lower sync speed on the latest firmware?

I used to synch at 64mbps and now it won’t go above 58 :/

Are you sure about this? Have you tried checking by reloading the old firmware?

I directed those who experienced the problem to the thread here for direct communication, but they disappeared.
