So far all is good!
Thanks for feedback, always good to see how these little tweaks work

October 4, 2022 at 4:09 pm #21113No problems so far on my setup since updating FW.
Only thing I did notice is slightly higher RAM usage – 209 MB free to 199 MB after setting up fresh with all my settings manually inputted.ย Now down to 188 MB free.

Free RAM down to 123 MB, this is quite weird.ย I did a hard factory reset again 3 days ago and gradually free RAM has gone down to now being at 123 MB.
Anyone else experiencing this?ย I have never experienced this with other FW versions.

October 12, 2022 at 5:59 am #21201I’ve not checked RAM usage and didn’t really check before, so wouldn’t know if there was a big discrepancy – but I have experienced a few occasions now where I’ve been told that I’ve gone offline (for a period of 20-30 seconds). I have fibre broadband which has always been rock solid, but it could be the ISP end I suppose.
What is definitely the router though is that I’ve had to hard reboot the main router (using power switch) as my mobile devices have suddenly been unable to connect, and when they did it was at a vastly reduced signal strength (suggesting I was connecting to the mesh node). Next time I’ll test that theory by walking nearer to the mesh to see if the signal improves.
If so, that would imply an issue with 5GHz-1 only, as the backhaul must be working to let me connect to the mesh node and get connectivity. Ethernet from the main router was fine.
Upon rebooting, everything returns to normal.
I will keep an eye on this, but it has happened on earlier firmware – so it’s more a case of hoping this remains a very rare occurrence.
Perhaps this is RAM related?!

Most odd but keep an eye on RAM usage, if this does happen again, maybe worth looking at the logs to see if there are an clues ?

How much free RAM do you have currently?ย Mine is now 115MB.ย If it keeps reducing I’ll revert to previous FW.

October 12, 2022 at 3:46 pm #21214It was mentioned on another forum that the low free RAM is due to ‘Asus no longer dropping the cache when logging in to the UI’.ย Apparently this is something new on all ASUS firmware.
@UK Sentinell, are you aware of this or is this something you can ask your ASUS contact?ย Bit concerning if the RAM gets very low and locks up.

I am but not how it has been described,ย my belief is that it should never go to ZERO, alas I was waiting for @jonathanmorris response before I got concerned.
But if it’s being discussed elsewhere, hopefully they can guide, compare RAM values also, to see if it is a real issue.
Would be interesting

I have 90-91MB free right now.

October 12, 2022 at 7:45 pm #21220I suppose we need to see how low the free RAM value might actually reach, without looking at my notes I seem to recall that RAM used, also includes memory (RAM) used by โbuffersโ and โcachedโ.
These cached memory will be released automatically. It will not cause out of memory if most of RAM used is actually โcachedโ.
But that’s the theory and we all remember the DSL-AC88U

Would be useful, when you hit around 30-40MB free, that when it should get interesting

Not sure if I did something or just normal behaviour.ย Free RAM went up from 83 MB to 100 MB.
