This is most definitely a step back for ASUS in terms of usability, especially in terms of deciding when to purchase a new router, because firmware updates typically on older models are not as frequent (risk profile) etc. especially if these devices are used in a commercial or SOHO environment

December 11, 2022 at 8:09 am #21985So I have had initial feedback from ASUS and seems/thinks this maybe an oversight on behalf of ASUS web team.
The contact I used at ASUS (router team) said they would look into this and hopefully get this fixed. Alas ASUS is such a big company and if one area, say PC’s , do not want dates showing, that policy may have been applied across there whole web presence, but hopefully this can be reversed.
I will of course keep chasing ASUS regarding release date no longer alongside the version release

December 14, 2022 at 10:43 am #22001Any ideas what these logs mean:
Dec 13 20:11:19 watchdog: reinit of unit31:0
Dec 13 20:11:43 miniupnpd[2158]: upnp_event_process_notify: connect(192.168.50.17:2869): Connection timed out
Dec 13 20:11:44 miniupnpd[2158]: upnp_event_process_notify: connect(192.168.50.17:2869): Connection timed out
Dec 13 20:11:44 miniupnpd[2158]: upnpevents_processfds: 0x9fc620, remove subscriber uuid:3ddcd1d3-2380-45f5-b069-fc34979be561 after an ERROR cb: http://192.168.50.17:2869/upnp/eventing/cffocgqfpv
Dec 13 20:14:19 watchdog: wl reinit count 10
Also this:
Dec 13 21:08:47 dnsmasq-dhcp[2220]: failed to write /var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases: No space left on device (retry in 60s)
Dec 13 21:09:47 dnsmasq-dhcp[2220]: failed to write /var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases: No space left on device (retry in 60s)
Go these logs repeatedly yesterday, but did not notice any connection issues.

Is 192.168.50.17 an Windows 10 PC or Xbox, if so then It means that the router received an UPnP/SSDP discovery broadcast from a device, but the device isn’t responding to incoming SSDP connections and nothing to worry about.
FYI: The watchdog service is a custom made daemon which in not configurable and just sits in the background etc.
,’. failed to write /var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases: No space left on device is a common issue and relates to lack of free memory, and can be a little more trickier to resolve

December 14, 2022 at 4:40 pm #22006Thanks, it is my desktop PC but not sure exactly what it is trying to do with UPnP/SSDP.
Any ideas if ASUS have found the solution to the memory issues on FW 388?
I may just revert back to 386.49873 which was the last solid FW for me. Downside is losing all the recent security fixes.

The below link explains it far better than I ever could, but it is normal and nothing to worry about

Alas no real idea on what is happening with 388 builds, forum member @lifeisfun is performing a few test in the background for ASUS with 388 builds for the XT8, so we should know soon if anything interesting comes from this ?

December 16, 2022 at 7:34 am #22011Any reason why ASUS is no longer showing release date of Firmware updates on their web site ?
As an update on why ASUS are no longer showing release dates of there firmware’s, this has now been escalated to top management at ASUS (political) but this policy has been applied to all ASUS type products, not just routers.
Incase this does not get resolved, I have offered the ASUS Router team a suggestion for a basic numbering system for there firmware’s which does include dates etc, so maybe an option going forward for the ASUS Router team to consider, also

The battle is not yet lost

So not just an oversight by Asus, 🙁
I would have placed a bet on it being the dev’s 😁
Letting dev’s out into the real world where there are mince pies & booze freely available normally dose not end well 🤭🤭🤭

December 22, 2022 at 5:27 pm #22046What do we know about version 3.0.0.4.388.22068? It is being offered by the iOS App and via the XT8 Web UI however it does not appear on the ASUS website?

December 22, 2022 at 6:31 pm #22047It is the same release as the firmware for hardware V1 ( 3.0.0.4.388.22068) but this time for Hardware V2 only, but exactly same release version number etc. which is most confusing.
Exactly the same changelog as V1.
