Hi @Nicky, in your above log, above the first entry, are the previous logs just repeated (Control: 10c5387d Table: 0e2b404a DAC: 00000015) etc.

Have you noticed any issues with your XT8 set-up like it crashing, or is it just the log error message has got you curious  ?

    Hi,

The two posts are not the same entry, they have been cut and pasted as was in the log. The router has not crashed (yet). It’s just the error log, I’ve never seen this before and was getting a little curious as to what and why?

I’ve just checked the log again and it’s not reoccurred since.

Had to reboot today after about 34 days uptime. Node was only connecting on 2.4 even though i had it set to fixed channel (173) 5-2. Interestingly enough, rebooting the node did not get it back on 5 backhaul. Had to do a system reboot from the app and then router and node were fine. Still, 30+ days for me is small miracle.

    30+ days is most impressive

So had a chat with ASUS because the log entries where a little obscure and I wanted to make sure regarding the firewall reference,  I also  have some background information which may help other ASUS ZenWifi XT8 owners.

    ASUS ZenWifi XT8 Details

    1. The ASUS ZenWifi XT8 AiMesh Router (Primary/Master) can support upto 9 wireless AiMesh Nodes
    2. The ASUS ZenWifi XT8 can support upto a theoretical maximum number of wifi clients.
      1.  2.4G: 128 wifi clients
      2. 5G-1: 128 wifi clients
      3. 5G-2: 64 wifi clients

‘note: this is a theoretical maximum ‘

Regarding your log messages, ASUS believe  the “asd” daemon crashed and the “restart_firewall” is called by “asd” after it restarted.

The ASD is from a Linux perspective  stands for ‘anything-sync-daemon’ I believe and handles temp files and writing them to storage etc.

The ‘CPU: 1 PID: 19422 Comm: asd Tainted: P O 4.1.52 #2’ in theory should not happen to much, but I have seen the same reference on other logs from ASUS users in the past, I assume it happens more often for yourself as you have a a lots of Nodes and wifi clients etc.

It is nothing to worry about and it is LINUX doing its thing (I believe) and is now on ASUS radar for future consideration

    Thank you so much.

There is a lot of useful information here, particularly with regards to the theoretical maximums.

No problem and they are ‘theoretical maximums’ no point having 128 wifi clients if you only have a 20Mbps internet connection, it would never work in practice

6 days after hopping into the latest firmware and trying out suggested settings, my node reverted back to ‘weak’ 2.4g wireless backhaul. Bummer. Ever since purchasing this xt8, my longest run w/o reverting to 2.4g wireless backhaul is 8days uptime. So frustrating. Starting to get ‘buyers remorse’ now with this device. It’s so powerful and yet clunky.

Have you tried fixing the 5GHz-2 to 80MHz?

Yes that’s how i set it up once i updated to the latest firmware. 80ghz, unchecked auto select including dfs and unchecked enable 160ghz.

Also maybe worth trying disable – APSD (automatic power save delivery) and Airtime Fairness for the 5GHz-2 backhaul

If above does not work maybe see below ?

    @Dodgydrains
, I am thinking either the nodes are to far apart (40-50db for best results, 50-60db is ok) or a factory reset is required ?

Try checking in the app for the RSSI on each node.  All 4 of my XT8’s are under 55dBm.

Also all the connection quality show as ‘Great’.

Ok all the suggested settings were already set at the time of updating firmware. The only additional setting i added now is the turning off of WMM APSD. Hope that tweak helps.

also, my node isn’t really far from the main router, yes it’s on the second floor but i can still see the main router if i stand beside the node upstairs (around 10-15meters apart). And i consistently get -41 rssi (great) signal whenever i check from the app.

Adding some screenshots of my settings:

If the above does not work, then try try disabling the 5Ghz (backhaul) roaming assistant.

Do you live near an airport or military establishment as issue maybe radar interference ?
