Hi all,
So just got the Panasonic fire TV, mixed opinions at the moment.
- No power off button just standby (rather annoying) but have a solution for this.
- Amazon Prime app doesn’t seem to do anything, I’m guessing as it is on the fire os? But layout is different.
- had network cable plugged in and it was meant to go straight through network setup but prompted for wireless details, went to ethernet connection, manually set a IP etc but no joy – had to setup via WIFI, after this it then said would enable wake on lan and after that it then showed wired connection all set?? weird… Did a speed test – 93mbps…. got 300mbps on speedtest from PC so TV/fireOS must be limiting speed but did say was ok for streaming 4k tv….
- After a power off after initial setup to finalise position of TV etc, power back on and it says remote is updating don’t press anything will take 1-2 mins….. 15mins later same screen….so got out of that and its not come back up since… not sure what that was about
- Batteries it came with for remote were not working, had to find 2 batteries and now working ok… odd as said valid till 2026….
- On old Panasonic to had a TV button/option to select to go back to TV, on this one no button and the TV seems to have been re-named to Aeriel…
Early days, will see how parents get on with it. It’s all signed in with amazon account and i got plex on the TV and signed in so will have to try it out and see if its any good. Still got AppleTV if its no good via the TV but ideally would remove the apple TV as don’t need it now the TV has the apps they use most on it so time will tell.
Hopefully once worked out the quirks, it will be o to use.

November 8, 2023 at 6:06 pm #27940Use a power distributor with switch, to power off and on.
Sometimes it may be needed if TV hangs and FW is lost in space.
Maybe there is built in only 100Mb/s LAN, more than enough for an TV even with 4k and saves little power.

November 9, 2023 at 8:23 am #27942Almost sounds like the TV you received was a previously returned item.
TV OFF button concern can be mitigated with a Digital Power Timer.
Everyday Tech is getting more complicated but great first thoughts review on your new Panasonic Fire TV

November 10, 2023 at 9:39 pm #27987TV seemed o when I got it – all packaged ok, all stickers etc on the box so seemed unopened etc. Unsure why batteries didn’t work considering didn’t expire till 2026, they too were unopened so not like they used and just put back in loose.
Still getting used to it, as I guess most TVs now, when you turn them on (from being turned off at wall socket) it takes a minute or 2 to “boot up” so to speak to load and then it comes up with the channel.
Previous TV used to power on and then show the TV channel with in a few seconds but I believe most TVS now have a OS they effectively boot up into now to allow the apps etc.
Have to say, I’m still not sure why TV makers in general are favouring leaving the TV is standby as opposed to actual off button, given the increased cost of living etc. I realise standby is low power usage but still all adds up. Fortunately parents have a socket just in front of the TV stand by the wall so we plugged a extension lead into that socket and plugged the TV into that so now its easy to turn on and off.
There is another plug which has another extension in to run the other items as and when needed i.e. apple tv etc so again we can turn on as needed.

November 11, 2023 at 8:49 am #27992Our LG TV has a mini joystick type of arrangement on the rear of the TV at the bottom, this I think only puts TV into standby ?
Anything simular on your panasonic TV ?
Whether true or not, I think one of the reasons why TV’s do not have Off button is that when they are restarted, it takes a while for TV to work and keep turning off TV in which some are Smart TV’s can cause firmware corruption and component damage due to associated thermal changes etc.
And I assume, cheaper to manufacture without power button

November 11, 2023 at 7:05 pm #27996Hi,
Yes, Panasonic always had the inputs on the back left of the TV and the power button on the back right.
Now the inputs are on the back right and the power button is at effectively underneath the bottom for the tv and is a button to press to turn on and go to standby. The remote is used to set it to standby and then it is switched off at the wall as not keen to leave it in “standby” all the time.
I suspect it has to do with 1 – the boot up time to get the TV on and also to save a few quick in a component and the actual button etc.
So far TV has been on, I’m considering *maybe* getting a TP link smart extension lead, they do 1 with 3 sockets and 2 x USBs (don’t need the USBs but they don’t do it with out the USBs) and basically it has inbuilt wifi and each socket effectively has a switch to turn it on and off and you link it up to the app and then you can simply turn the socket on/off as needed via the app which would mean the extension stays on but the actual TV and other devices can be turned off.
Not sure its a bit pricey for what it is but as the actual extension sits behind the TV, only option atm is keep bending down to turn the wall socket for the extension on and off so will see how that goes and decide from there.
early days still atm.

November 12, 2023 at 9:48 pm #28016So noticed a interesting “feature” yesterday….
We was watching a film, paused it whilst making a drink and after a bit, it switched to showing some random pictures and the time (maybe date too forget) quiet nice pictures (never said where the pictures were from though lol) anyway after a few minutes of doing that, the TV went to standby mode…..
Still trying to see how to stop that happening, I told the TV not to go into standby so I don’t believe its the TV as if tv is on during the day watching the TV, it doesn’t do this so I’m thinking something to do with the screensaver pictures but only option is a timer you can set which I don’t want the timer and its not set at the moment as if I do set to say 8 hours, it shows a countdown to when it will go to sleep lol so cancelled that.
I was watching it via plex and I didn’t see any options in plex app on the TV for standby/sleep mode..
Will continue to look when I get time :)

November 13, 2023 at 6:48 am #28022As you say, sounds like a screensaver just the challenge to see whether it is from TV or PLEX.

November 16, 2023 at 9:37 pm #28089HI all,
So update….. TV is ok on the whole, parents getting used to it etc.
However, it has developed show 3 smallish dashes near the top right hand side like —- —– ——- in a yellowy colour…
This only happens when watching TV channels via the aerial. IF I open BBC iPlayer on the TV, it goes away, if I open prime on the TV it goes away so I’m thinking it can’t be the screen as otherwise it would be there all the time so my only conclusion is it’s the TV aerial cable?
The TV aerial cable at present goes from aerial socket on the wall into a Humax Freeview recorder box and then has a aerial cable out of that into the TV.
Tonight I’ve bypassed the Humax box and am going directly from the wall socket to the TV and same result so I’m now looking for a new TV aerial cable to try… My dad was looking it up earlier and someone said needed a 75ohm tv aerial cable? I had a quick look and did you know there is such a think as a 4k Tv aerial cable?? wasn’t expecting that tbh. Although none seem to say 75ohm…. I found a HDTV cable which mentions it but that’s only HD not 4k so need to investigate a bit more.
The TV aerial cable is the same one used on old TV, in exact same setup, tbh it may of been there from initial setup but I didn’t notice it as depends on what’s on how clear it is and tbh I personally only ever watch a film via prime or tv series so i’ve not really watched much actual tv on it.

November 17, 2023 at 10:46 am #28092So this morning, turned TV on and the 3 yellow short lines have gone… very odd…
I’ve ordered 2 new 75ohm cables from amazon, should come tomorrow so will try them and see if any change. Manual does say to use 75 0hm cables and tbh I have no idea if the aerial cable from wall to TV is 75ohms or not has had it years so no clue.
One difference I can think of is – the main TV cable going from wall socket to aerial is connected directly to the aerial. The wall connectors for other TVs are going via amplifier, so if cable doesn’t work, might try connecting to amplifier and see if that makes any difference.
otherwise only conclusion is it happens once the TV gets hot? but only when viewing the tv via aerial, if I go into a app on the TV it disappears…. very odd.. if it happened when hot, I’d expect to see it on the apps too or any channel for that matter…

November 17, 2023 at 1:40 pm #28093Worth trying the 75 0hm cable upgrade but does sound an interesting problem and the fact the lines disappeared is even more odd

November 17, 2023 at 1:50 pm #28094Yes, after trying the cables & connecting to the amplifier to see if any changes, i’m at a loss and can only assume faulty tv? and will need to raise with Panasonic I presume as I suspect retailer wont take it back/exchange it…

November 17, 2023 at 2:00 pm #28096I have seen when screens fail, or a component within them and you get vertical lines across most of the screen, but yours is an odd and the fact that the 3 lines disappeared does suggest and input type issue or maybe heat related as you mentioned.

November 17, 2023 at 2:16 pm #28099Yeah, unfortunately the TV is on a fair amount of the day as parents are home more now winter is here and they are obviously older so tend to watch more tv.
Strange thing is – if they watch movies via prime app for example, its fine, its only the actual aerial TV that causes it. So we will see if aerial cables make any difference or not tomorrow or Sunday as I’m working tomorrow so wont be able to change them till tomorrow night unfortunately.
