Thanks for this. I have rolled back the firmware as the wifi has disconnected a few times due to radar the latest version appears a lot more aggressive for radar. I have never had a total disconnect but its happened 4 times so far whilst working from home so not ideal. its affected both the 5ghz bands

I have updated to the latest firmware but have noticed since then in the system logs this happened loads. No idea what it means but have just submitted feedback/question via the interface. it is set manually to channel 1 as auto knocks the connection to the ring doorbell off otherwise.
Has anyone else noticed this?

I was pretty sure that your issue was that devices were conneting via 80MHz when you had it set up as 20/40/80/160.Β Baffling how modern PC/mobile devices are still not 160MHz compliant.
Yes a lot of fiddling with the settings. I have set the 5GHZ-2 at 160mhz only on channel 100 as we only have one XT8. Interestingly, the MacBook can see the 160 MHz but only offers single band speed. it’s the same with the iPhone 14 and iPad. the speeds are more stable with about 700mbps the surface 4 that can use 160mhz with a tx of 2.4gbps shows a speed test of 920 mbps over wifi.

Can you log into router via browser and Screen capture the Wireless log, this will show us all connections and data rates etc.
I have done some investigation and if you switch it to 160mhz only instead of 20/40/80/160 my surface 4 then shows 2400/2400 so it allows dual band. Previously even with 20/40/80/160 selected its wont double up its has to be only 160mhz only.
I have done a speed test and its gets nearly 900mbps on wifi so problem solved. just a shame not many wireless cards inc apple MacBook Pro are 160mhz enabled.
useful to know for anyone else having similar problems on the FTTP 900 and didn’t notice this at all when on the 500/75 package.

Thanks for this :)
I am starting to wonder if the ASUS has an issue as I’ve got on AX 160GHZ on 5GHZ-2. Β I have got another works laptop, surface 4 and its has a Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz with the latest driver its is only syncing at 1201.
I could be wrong but understand that it should be 2400 with AX 160 MHz enabled on the XT8 I can’t see what other setting I can turn on?
Thanks
sorry wont let me uploads pic as its says its too large managed it as a png file :)

tried it and non of apple products can see the 5GHZ-2 when only on 160mhz Iβve got it set to just 80mhz on the 5GHZ-2 channel.
Interesting, when you next have time, can you go to the Wireless Log and check what value the βTx rateβ is for the device in question (MacBook).
Thats really interesting and appreciate you contacting ASUS! Do the settings look the same, do they have a copy of the Wireless – Professional settings for 5GHZ-2 to compare as I’ve noticed a debate on the universal beaming settings and the different OFDMA/802.11ax MU-MIMO settings affecting TX speeds

I have changed from the merlin to the latest ASUS version 3.0.0.4.388_23285-g5068da5 and noticed a slight increase in throughput but still about 600mbps when running several speed tests. The TX is consistent at 1,200
Thanks

Thanks.. We only have 1 XT8 and use the 5GHZ-2 for mainly high speed devices like the MacBook pro, iPhone etc. I have uploaded the settings for the 5GHZ-2. :)
Can you try setting 160MHz rather than 20/40/80/160MHz? That way you will know for certain if your device can/is connecting to 160MHz.

Yes I was hoping for a little more than 600 ish but can’t tell if there’s a setting that could tweak and improve the speed. Ive downloaded the latest Asus firmware and it’s not made any difference.
Contemplating calling BT to downgrade back to the 500 as not much better on wifi tbh.

Glad you decided to join, Wifi is always interesting, I assume if you can set 160mhz on the 5ghz-1 channel the results are the same ? @Dodgydrains, have you notice any wifi throughput issues with your XT8βs
I donβt think you can enable 160mhz on 5ghz-1 only the second one.
No sure if others have experienced similar issues with FTTP as it was fine and could attain 520mbps on the previous BT package but canβt manage to get above 650 ish

Hi Iβve been an avid follower of the forum and QOS had been disabled since it was first set up. Iβve tired different bands on 5ghz but hasnβt made much of a difference.
Iβve had the router for a while and am familiar with the interface but Iβm puzzled over this one as was expecting faster speeds as the MacBook pro is syncing at 1,200 on channel 116.

I have BT FTTP and have my settings are the same apart from theΒ NAT Type that’s Symmetric. I can’t find an answer online on what the difference is with BT Broadband. does it make a difference from Fullcone or Symmetric when using BT? thanks

After the latest official firmware issues, I bit the bullet and updated the firmware to the Asuswrt-MerlinΒ 386.07_2-gnuton1 more out of curiosity and so far Iβm very impressed.

I didnβt take a screenshot but did submit feedback when 21099 was still on the router so hopefully asus have a copy.
