Just got the DSL AC88U. I upgraded from the DSL AC68U and I’m trying to enable telnet/SSH on the DSL AC88U how do I achieve this? as it was the main reason I brought the Asus DSL modem/s but this upgrade seems way behind the DSL AC68U. Regards, Ricky.
Welcome. Both the DSL-AC88U and DSl-AC3100 use the Broadcom Chipset, currently Telnet (SSH) access has not been included into firmware build, I believe a while back ASUS if you contacted them via the feedback Page in UI, would release for individuals, an Unlocked (debug)Version, but for Stock Firmware, no SSH access is possible.
The plans was to at some stage to release an unlocked version, with limited / restricted access via SSH, but no idea when this is going to occur, if ever.

January 11, 2019 at 10:55 am #1915v9.10.6 583 was the debug firmware with telnet. I still have it. Not sure where you’ll find a link. If you want it I’m sure there’s a way I can get it to you

January 11, 2019 at 11:09 am #1917I guess the DSL AC88U is crap then and was a waste of my money as it is no way a upgrade to the DSL AC68U which by far shits on this AC88U.
I think I will be returning this modem to get a full refund as is a total waste of nearly 600 AUD. And the DSL AC68U I got brand new for half the price of the DSL AC88U.
I might also take Asus to the Australian ombudsman as this modem has been sold with features it doesn’t support and features it do have either don’t work or is a complete UI mess, the ui has taken 5 year step backwards in the DSL AC88U compared to the DSL AC68U.
If Asus are no longer enabling SSH on stock firmware, then I have no need of their modem/routers.
I Tried emailing Asus from the feedback form asking for telnet/SSH access for my DSL AC88U modem or I’d be taking it back for refund and filing a complaint with ombudsman but I haven’t heard back.
They seem to reply to positive feedback but anything remotely not positive and we’re ignored.
Your lucky that they reply to you.
Thanks for the help and info.
It was such a shame they advised in an email prior to purchase it had identical software features to the DSL AC68U, which they lied to me about. I’m glad I kept the email from them for the ombudsman. :)
Regards,
Ricky.
Looks like I’ll be plugging in the DSL AC68U again until it dies and I will not be purchasing any Asus products ever again after this inciedent.

I would really love a version that has telnet/SSH access. Can U provide a link to Dropbox so I can download to my mobile if that’s okay.
I have been unable to get it from Asus nor Google
Google directed me to this page which state on page 1 telnet had been enabled but on the stock firmware which is higher then what was on page 1 it don’t include it. They have no reason not to. They just don’t want us to use the product the way we want or for reasons we purchased it.

Ricky.

They got no legitimate reason to not give us SSH access

January 11, 2019 at 11:57 am #1920@TiberiusCato – Alas, the restriction from my chats with ASUS are via Broadcom, not ASUS, the DSl-AC68U uses MediaTek for its DSL, so they are much more open than say Broadcom.
I can drop ASUS an email and ask for the latest unlocked version if that helps, and PM it to you?

That I would really appreciate as I really need telnet/ssh access.

No Problem, I have asked ASUS, they maybe closed now for the weekend, so should hear back early next week ;)

January 11, 2019 at 1:01 pm #1923Alas that does seem the best option, as you have factory reset and build from scratch, then a Hardware Fault is most likely if wifi issue remains? That router is doing a lot of AirMilesYes, yes much more AirMiles than wifi time …So, which is the best option for replacing the ADSL-AC3100 modem? The RT-AC3100 router or the old RT-AC86U?
Does anyone know if the RT-AC3100 router has the same problems as the DSL-AC3100 modem?
Thank you.

January 11, 2019 at 1:02 pm #1925I can post a link to googledrive, but maybe UK Sentinel doesn’t want that kind of thing here. Could email if you want to give a vaguely camouflaged address?

I do not think (I am assuming) ASUS want that sort of firmware publicly available any more.
I will email @pavlf @tiberiuscato and act as a go between if that ok with you guys ?

I would appreciate any firmware that has telnet/SSH access ATM. I will not publicly post it anywhere and I will update to a newer firmware if you (UK sentinel) are able to obtain one from ASUS for me :)

Ricky.
