When you use the ASUS DSL-AC88U QiS to setup initial configuration for the router, parameters like PlusNet Username Name and Password does have to be entered Manually For port Forwarding are cameras on (static IP) and are they IPV4 / v6? I recall from back in July last year it was mentioned that there appeared to be no way to limit which external source IP addresses can connect in via port forwarding/firewall rules. Is this still the case with latest firmware? Also, for testing only. try disabling firewall, this use to be a big issue with ASUS routers as Port forwarding did work, but after a few hours, stopped and may help explain cause of issue?
Using QiS I have tried to select my area as UK and my ISP as plusnet. I enter username and pasword – it does not work. I have to set ISP as “not listed” then enter Connection Type, VLAND, Username and password manually to get the connection.
Cameras are indeed on static IP addresses IPv6 is disabled.
I have tried turning off the firewall and still no camera viewing from outside my network. It works fine within.

January 3, 2019 at 10:00 am #1860ISSUE 1. Devices disappearing from the Network Map > Clients section & System Log > DHCP leases, showing no entries. This was caused by a several devices on my network trying to join with an apostrophe in the name, For Example my Xioami Phone: MI8-YozβsMi8 & My Yamaha Amplifier: Yozβs-Amp. As soon as I took these devices offline the other devices showed in the clients list again. Funnily enough my LG Phone: Marksβs LG G3, joined as βandroid-xxxxxxxxβ so didnβt exhibit the problem. I never had this issue on the N66U. but have got around it by renaming the devices on the devices themselves. I can see other people having this issue, without knowing. There is also no View List under the number of clients in this firmware like with my previous router.
I have the same issue and I blame ASUS for not using release 503 as a base for the current betas. The same thing happens for me Under Network Map -> Client Status -> Wireless, my entries all disappear and wireless connections drop for a minute or two and then they will re-appear. This started around about beta 549 ish. I was never sure if it was my devices or the router itself.

January 3, 2019 at 10:23 am #1861- When i use the initial setup the router canβt seem to deal automatically with my plusnet account. I have to enter the details manually.
I am currently with PlusNet and my password contains a comma at the end and itβs not saved by the router so itβs never able to connect automatically β I have to go into the WAN settings and add a comma at the end and then it works. This has NEVER worked (even 503) β ASUS are aware of it and have a fix for it lined up.
I just have a boring standard password. I do have a static IP address via plusnet, other that that its standard vdsl, but on a long slow line (9200 kbps) Anyone else on plusnet have issues?

Maybe drop ASUS a a Feedback form and tell them that your set-up is not working, mention at the beginning you have chatted with UK Sentinel, and hopefully they will respond.
Offline: I have sent ASUS a couple of Emails this week regarding IPV6 /56/64 issues etc. and have not had any feedback, so unsure what they are up to at the moment ?
Likewise, sometimes, life is just to short and maybe better to cut your loses and ditch the DSL-AC88U and purchase something like RT-AC86U (with suitable modem) and flash with RMerlin firmware etc ;-)

January 8, 2019 at 8:49 am #1865Ok. so I have had a conversation with ASUS and it does appear that the DSL-AC88U with AiProtection fully enabled and IPv4 will not fully support G.fast speeds from WAN to LAN.
ASUS are looking into LAN to LAN transfer speeds, but given the limitation/restriction is Hardware Based, with AiProtection ON, the same will apply (I am sure). unless the DSL-AC88U packet inspection techniques changes, are refined.
The same applies for both LAN to LAN for Wifi and Ethernet connections
For VDSL connection WAN to LAN,Β AiProtection works as expected?
Interesting times ahead for the DSL-AC88U and I am waiting to understand from ASUS if pure IPv6 Environments (WAN to LAN and LAN to LAN) will have the same limitations?
Alas, I am on a 50/10 service so cannot check to see if the ASUS RT series (Non DSL) routers are also impacted by G.fast speeds and AiProtection. ?
Edit: I have had feedback from ASUS and they say as enablingΒ AiProtection disables HW Accelerator, the same limitations will be in effect whether user/owner are using IPv4 or IPv6.

January 8, 2019 at 10:12 pm #1889I’ve given up on ever using AiProtection.
Meanwhile, 591 is a bit meh really. First time around it rebooted itself, but was running at 190mb RAM used. Then after a few days an issue with the application whose name can’t be mentioned caused the RAM usage to spike to 98% and remain there for three days (this is what the GUI reported at any rate) without dropping back at all. Eventually I rebooted the system. Up for nine days now but RAM usage is 251mb instead of the 190 previously. I don’t really care, as long as it works, but it does seem strange that things should change like this despite all the settings remaining the same. When I get some spare money I’ll probably sell it and get an RT model. From what you say UK Sentinel it sounds like ASUS are throwing in the towel with this router, slowly, but surely.

Yes, ASUS are making hard work of this especially with AiProtection, alas the DSL’s have always been buggy and work only if you don’t expect to much from them ;-)

January 9, 2019 at 5:34 pm #1899Im on 591 and yeah i don’t use ai protection anymore and frankly the router is more stable.Β I’d rather have my full speed internet of 330/50 than the tiny bit of protection trend micro offer with slowdowns and problems to boot. To be honest all you need is common sense on the web.
@UK SentinelΒ It is interesting indeed, What Asus should say in their fancy overview on their product page or even in a FAQ of the support page is “our router is compatible with G.Fast connections, but to fully utilise your line speed you can’t have certain features on that we provide” Same goes for any other stuff they provide. Or they could be blunt and say just buy our router with all these non promised features than may or not work and use default settings.. :D

January 9, 2019 at 10:46 pm #1900@KitsuneDave – if only, I do not think they even realised this when the where creating the DSL-AC88U from a concept perspective.
I remember speaking with them when they said they was comparing various options from Broadcom, Lantiq and others, as I did some preliminary testing for them back in the day with a couple of modem chipset choices, shame really as on paper, Broadcom looked good ;-)

January 10, 2019 at 1:43 pm #1901Hello,
I’m turning to this forum as a last hope to try to make the DSL-AC3100 work.
I got the modem in late December and it worked perfectly for 3 days, although slow with AIprotection and VPN client enabled. After that period the wifi led 5g went off and 2.4, although lit it does not work, it does not even appear in the wifi list.I’ve tried everything, standard reset, firware update, firmare reinstallation of the first available on the Asus website, nothing I do makes the wife work.
I’ve tried all the options discussed in this forum as well.
Any suggestion?
My connection is Vdsl 50/10. Brazil.

January 10, 2019 at 6:59 pm #1903Sounds like you are having fun, was the DSL-AC3100 brought new or Second hand, as it sounds like it could be faulty and needs replacing under warranty?
The DSL-AC88U and DSL-AC3100 have been reported by users as being faulty for wifi in particular for earlier models.

January 10, 2019 at 9:21 pm #1904Yes, I’m having much fun!
I brought it new in Australia, and I’m using it in Brasil. And the worst thing for me is that the Amazon return period has passed, and it does not pay to send it to Asus. I thought it would be a great buy, as I always relied on the Asus routers. I did not realize that there were so many problems with the modem.
As there seems to be a flaw in the equipment and as I have friends going to Australia tomorrow, trying to trade it for the RT-AC3100 would be a good option as I could use merlin firmware instead of Asus, or the best option, in case I could replace it, would be replace it with an RT-AC86U?

Alas that does seem the best option, as you have factory reset and build from scratch, then a Hardware Fault is most likely if wifi issue remains?
That router is doing a lot of AirMiles ;-)

January 11, 2019 at 5:28 am #1913Just got the DSL AC88U. I upgraded from the DSL AC68U and I’m trying to enable telnet/SSH on the DSL AC88U how do I achieve this? as it was the main reason I brought the Asus DSL modem/s but this upgrade seems way behind the DSL AC68U.
Regards,
Ricky.
