Thanks for update and hopefully your RT-AC86U will be a more enjoyable experience.
Maybe worth looking at RMerlins firmware, as this goes well with ASUS RT Routers.
Out of interest, do you know if your DSLAM was ECI or Huawei?, I assumed from your stats it was Huawei ??

May 2, 2019 at 8:04 am #2953Finally resorted to reverting back to FW585.
The uptime FW591 has been (in days): 38, 5, 9, 34, 13, 17, 1, 3
591 has been frustratingly unstable with lockups and DNS failures. In the case where the DNS stops, I found I can get internet working again by setting the clients to use a direct DNS server (e.g. 1.1.1.1) instead of using the routers.
Also, I noticed something that might give a clue to the lockups – the LAN LED would flash continuously despite me unplugging all ethernet devices.
If you could pass these on the ASUS, then maybe “one day” they can fix it :P

May 2, 2019 at 8:42 am #2955May 7, 2019 at 7:37 am #2963I have heard from ASUS this morning that the next Firmware release for the DSL-AC88U and DSL-AC3100 has been delayed until Mid August/ early September.

May 7, 2019 at 8:10 am #2964What?!??! I was counting the days. So, this means it’s going to be around nine months between releases for a flagship router than still doesn’t work properly? Mine works sort of OK as long as everything is off and I don’t connect too many devices (so how is it different to lesser routers costing half the price?).
I’m really disillusioned with ASUS by now. If/when I have to get another it seems like it will be a FritzBox. I’d get a standalone ASUS and separate modem, but at this stage – after issues with the dsl55u, the dsl56u (you’d think I’d learn!) and now this I think my days with this company are over.
It seems the problem with this router is that they’ve decided to move on from it. Perhaps their problem will be that many will move on from them. Companies as big as ASUS, however, seem able to absorb negative publicity such is their share of the market.

May 7, 2019 at 8:25 am #2965It is a shame, for ASUS DSL Team, they had the opportunity to get-it-right after the many issues with DSL-AC68U, but like most things in life, nothing is 100% nowadays.
I was also looking forward to the new release for testing…âŚâŚ.. ;(

May 7, 2019 at 11:33 am #2966I am hoping they are using this additional time to properly fix the issues with the next firmware.
If the problems persist with next firmware my next modem/router purchase will not be from Asus. This is becoming an absolute joke.

I have been nagging them for a few years regarding taking more time to ensure the “units” are fit for purpose, maybe they listened ????

Will that be the official firmware or beta? I’ve never used the betas, but might do so given my issues.

Usually ASUS release Beta’s then formalise them in an official / stock release after bugs have been identified, I was told it would be an official release, we shall see ;-)

May 8, 2019 at 8:21 am #2973Sorry to say but give up thinking there could ever be a Merlin-version for DSL-AC88U.
GNUton just had a look into the firmware and no chance: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/openwrt-custom-firmware-for-asus-dsl-routers.56478/
And worse – for him its more a development firmware not able to be compiled from GPL.

Such a shame, the DSL-AC88U could really do with GNUton work of combining RMerlin based Firmware options on the DSL-AC88U,
Thanks for the news sad newsv;-(

May 16, 2019 at 7:11 am #3116FW 585 also is no good. Same DNS and lockup issues. Uptime has been 4Â days and then 10 days before needing a reboot. Going back to 503!
Just out of curiosity, is anyone else using Cloudflare as DNS?

May 16, 2019 at 7:25 am #3117Never used it myself, but worth changing to say Google DNS for testing purposes as I am sure issue is not firmware related.

Are you using IPv4 or IPv6 ?
