I tried a manual download this morning and I still receive the,ย 404 – Not Found
Hopefully ASUS ZenWiFi AX (XT8) can still be updated directly from UI

October 1, 2021 at 9:25 am #15616Did you install the beta? Might mean it won’t be looking for anything other than betas from now on (not sure if Asus have a beta channel or something?)
I didn’t install the beta posted here in the end, as I didn’t want to lose the AI Protection features, and it offered the update early yesterday.

I actually went back to official firmware straight after testing due to missing AI protection.

ASUS kindly contacted me this morning to let me know that ( Version 3.0.0.4.386.45879) has been pulled.
I would roll back to Version 3.0.0.4.386.42095 when it is convenient to do so to ensure uptime.

October 6, 2021 at 9:03 am #15675Does Facebook use these routers by any chance? ๐
I did the now-removed update and turned off the auto-reboot schedule, and woke up to see the mesh node sitting on a weak 2.4GHz signal again – so this update certainly isn’t/wasn’t good.
I am still at a loss as to how it will drop to 2.4GHz despite having a good (no, great) signal. There shouldn’t even be a 2.4 connection as you can only choose between ethernet or 5GHz. Even rebooting doesn’t seem to force an attempt to reconnect, but after a while (maybe a few hours) it can fix itself. There’s no logic or consistency, so sometimes I wonder if it’s just pot luck. [The two routers aren’t that far apart; around 10 metres. I’m starting to think I’d be better off just having a single router, which almost covers the whole house]
I’ve turned auto reboot back on, which will hopefully cover me for the time being.
How can it be so difficult for Asus to fix? I’d rather there be a new option added to force 5GHz (or restrict 2.4GHz for backhaul).

</noscript>The product has been out quite a while now, and with the 6E version now on sale in selected regions, I must begin to wonder if that would do the exact same thing (drop to 2.4GHz randomly).
I’d have thought it a relatively simple fix; just don’t allow it to drop to 2.4GHz OR at the very least make it attempt a renegotiation with the 5GHz-2 backhaul at very regular intervals. Maybe it is doing that and the renegotiation process is failing, which could explain the issue, but obviously I have no idea – but Asus should!
It really isn’t practical for me to run a cable between the two routers, or else I’d have done so.
