Problem solved. v1.1.2.3_805 – after facory reset problem still present, flashing v1.1.2.3_743 and add vpn profile, problem is gone, and finally update to v1.1.2.3_805 and everything is ok.

Basically, the DSL-N66U has reached is end of life, ASUS kindly provided unofficial updates beyond EOL but as they received a complaint about EOL Firmware, with no support, they (ASUS) have withdrawn all previously released DSL-N66U Firmware’s beyond

So the version you are currently running is the latest and no newer firmwares are available for download via ASUS
ASUS did release DSL-N66U firmware’s 783/790 so hopefully somebody else downloaded before they where removed, if so hopefully they can share or drop me an email and I can share via Forum Direct link etc
