After returning the units and purchasing replacements from Very.co.uk, it looks like these units are now also working without any issues on 43181 (the problem firmware on Microsoft Teams). Not sure if the beta firmware actually updated something permanently in the units!!!!
Also with Very voucher codes that Very sent to me, managed to get all 4 units for £493 rather than £640

The only firmware currently available from ASUS website are 42095 and 43181. The older firmware prior to 42095 are not there anymore
Even if for some reason the app did auto update, 42095 firmware is available to download manually

Hopefully that will be out of box firmware. Is there an automatic update that will kick once switched on. By the way what’s with the prices, yesterday £307 on Amazon, today £399! Last week, £307 pre order on Scan, today £409!
The auto update will update the FW to the latest, which is currently 43181. If you want to update to a specific firmware (i.e. 42095) then this would need to be done on each unit individually.
The out of box firmware for each of my orders and replacements were very early firmware from last year.
With regards prices, they are going back up on most sites. As UKSentinel mentioned it must be something to do with chip shortages.
You can also try Amazon Warehouse which is usually decently priced.

This is the response from ASUS engineer team:
Query 1: The only issue I am having with this BETA FW is the parental control is not working even after advanced factory reset. I have sent feedback via UI with logs.
That’s because the BETA FW turned off AiProtection related features. Later released official FW will turn on it.
Query 2: There is someone on UKTECHhub.com who would like to test this new BETA, am I able to share the link?
It’s ok but please notify that it is just a BETA FW to fix this issue, so some features may not be able to work properly. And it’s only a short solution.
@UK Sentinel, do you want me to send you the link for the new beta? It may not actually fix any other specific issues.

I have sent feedback on the parental control issue via the new beta UI. If ASUS fix (activate) parental control on it I can update FW for daily use. As it stands I will revert back this evening, parental control is a must for me with schools re-opening.
The firmware you received was via an email with a download link I assume, so maybe worth also sending you comments to the Engineer whom sent you the download link . the feedback option via UI is good, but they receive so many it maybe missed . Mention UK Sentinel asked you to send via email also, that should stop any possible negative response.

I sent an email first to the engineer and then used UI to send feedback. Hopefully the Parental Control being borked is deliberate as it was the same with the previous beta. Just fix this please ASUS……
@Jonathan Morris, I would be happy to send the new beta link but not sure that this is allowed. You need to login in order to vote

Also with the new beta, the 5GHz-2 channel (backhaul) defaults to channel 100 and bandwidth 80MHz. No way to force to bandwidth 160MHz on channel 100 other than to manually change to something like channel 116.
If I select channel 100 manually then bandwidth 160MHz is enabled, WEIRD!!!!!!
This was present on 42095, but not on 43181.

The teams issue was present on the new units with 43181.
I have factory reset the new units and the parental control with new beta is definitely broken. This was the same with the old beta as well. Could it be deliberate?

Really solid connection and speed from the node at the far end of the flat. Hopefully it stays likes this and doesn’t go flaky after a few hours.
One ‘bug’ I have found is that I have parental control time scheduling on but the device shows ‘Time Scheduling’ as ‘OFF’. Looks like parental control not working in beta?

Initial testing is promising. Updated only (without factory reset) from 43181 to new beta and made 3 Teams calls and none have got stuck or disconnected. This is with the replacement units.

Got a beta to test my issue again, see how this goes. I also RMA’d and bought replacements just in case.

Just got this message from ASUS:
” Please try to make the node (xxxxxxxxxxxxx) WAN Port connect to Mesh router LAN Port.
And then make the Surface Pro 7 connect to node. See if any improvement. And if there would have the same teams connection problem while Surface Pro 7 connect to Node LAN Port previously?”
Told them no way for me to do this as that node is located far end of my house with the router at the other end…

Hi Thanks for your very quick response. I actually have the Orbi 752 right now which was on offer at £330, when I bought it. While I am happy with the performance, I don’t like the idea of having to pay extra, via subscription, for some features which are essential for me. The unit was advertised as coming with these features, (at least that’s what I understood) and then I found out otherwise. I am guessing subscriptions will apply to the the 852 series as well. So looks like ET8 wont be arriving anytime soon? How prevalent are the issues with XT8. Any other suggestions for comparable systems that come with dedicated backhaul channels, similar range and offer security etc, without having to pay extra for subs. Thanks again for your help. Lou
I was in the same position as you and ended up going with my current setup consisting of 4x XT8, as I need the parental control features. The issues for me seem to be with the latest firmware after 42095, where Microsoft teams keeps losing connection. I am running 42095 which has been mostly stable for me apart from one unit dropping to 2.4GHz on the backhaul couple of days ago. Powering down the unit and then factory reset resolved it for me after adding that node back to the mesh setup. just had 14 days uptime without experiencing any visible issues (other than the one I mentioned with one node)
Your mileage may vary depending on your specific needs. I just need ASUS to sort out their firmware issues after 42095.
