Now they are on version 7.19.75737 for 7590 and most things are fixed now.

Many routers and repeaters got beta or so called Labor-firmwares.

I think we wont have to wait much longer for first stable release 7.19 or 7.20.

And they added hardware encryption for VPN on router which is much faster now than before.

Yes it is possible to load open firmware on these routers, but much to complicated and not neccessary for me. Might not be that complicated but for me it seems to be and there are few informations how to do, most are to be found between the lines of 150 pages threads for experienced linux users. Somehow while booting you have to break in and start some commands, then you can load your open firmware in parallel and start it instead of original restricteds one from provider. Newer boxes have 2 firmwares which could toggle on failure AFAIK. Might be a much to simple explanation, but as first step what and where to look for.

You can use it, full international support of language (see your list) and time zone, but you wont get correct connectors used in UK, so you have to “build” your own or reuse old one.

we all know possible problems with china batteries (less power, not accepted by bios or not charged inside, problem on power on from battery, broken after 1/2 year of usage), but problem with old products that original batteries are either not available any more or very old and long time in stock so expensive and poor power capacity too.

-> there is no way to get old power back again, you would have to build your own battery!

Thats my personal finding and therefore I think no way than to try your luck with some cheap china import.

Because it is very very expensive for operators to run fibre from fttc to every single home all over the country.  Maybe different in multi-story dwellings. But 50% of people here in the middle of EU live in single-family houses.

Important to know that now even german version 7490 and 7590 supports multi language and region setting. So you wont be limited to use international version of these router-modems.

Differences in packages are only different plugs, so you could make your own for your needs.

No, with cfe-commands you need ‘nvram set asuscfecommit=1’ as “write to cfe instruction”.
