very OT!
same like me, old fashioned electronics ;-)
But still using this art to upgrade things, very hard today to find soldering points with decent voltage levels in a car radio to automatically turn it on and change to AUX if a phone call arrives and the radio got only a mono phone-in and mute pin. But after long search found them and with opto-MOSFET I switch the buttons like it would be manually. And connected free backside pins to front AUX-plug to connect to it invisible and with good quality.

dont know any market value, 500M are their sales a year, not too bad for a very specialized company.

Silly money due to Unicorn status.
750 employees and 500Mβ¬ sales founded 1986, most selled modem in Germany and what I know often used in Austria, Italy, Belgium and Netherlands – they develop on their own in EU.
Huge benefit if you would like to use DECT phones they are connected directly to router.
Zen-UK uses a 7530 modem: https://www.zen.co.uk/business/small-business/products-solutions/network-connectivity/broadband/routers

both are free (open for all providers) internat. versions (not mine – already sold):

Has been only a fast and last offer if someone likes to test it in UK, I have a buyer here who will use it as mesh-node end of week.
7582 (20002809) and 7583 (20002847) are internat. versions with english and so on.
I found 7583 listed on geizhals.eu and thought they are public available, seems to be not true after more search.
But still on ebay and more on other second hand platforms like willhaben.at.
Would be funny to see one running in UK how it behaves, I am too curious thats all! :-)
BTW: Isnt there always a modem included from provider, cant imagine that they sell a contract without?!?

I could give you my AVM Fritz!Box 7582 with G.fast for 150β¬ ;-)
ADSL and vplus doesnt work on it but G.fast perfect and everything else too, tested at work.
It had the problem that the switching relay between ADSL and G.fast didnt switch due to defective driver transistor, so the much higher levels for G.fast destroyed the input of ADSL chip, the other chip for G.fast only running perfectly fine.
And I wont get G.fast as we’ve been upgraded to vplus last year, so no use anymore and sell it.
Whats with 7583 new for 300GBP, it should support G.fast too, or are there problems in UK with it?

For me it doesnt make any sense to use this expensive DSL-modemrouter in bridge mode as modem only without any routing functionality.
Get a cheap approved provider modem instead with full DSL-support.
The reason to use this Asus DSL-router is only to have a single router-device without need for extra modem.

just what I said or expected.
You should see about 1Mb/s more speed using Annex_A, but thats marginal on >40Mb lines and probably not able to observe.
Annex_J uses even POTS spectrum for DSL, here a nice pic.

Annex A or B are only how much in the lower frequency range are left for POTS (about 10kHz) with Annex_A or approx. 128-200MHz for ISDN with Annex_B.
You can use even Annex B on a POTS if supported by operator, you will only loose some more bytes speed as this lower spectrum wont be used for ADSL.
Using Annex A on an ISDN will brake ISDN as the same range is used by both services ISDN and ADSL.
And there are some more differences as the spectrum is devided in slightly different slots.
I had ISDN and Annex_B many years ago, but now on POTS with Annex A.
AND I can change setting from A to B and today on my fast ~280Mb/s v-plus line wont see any difference and both are working on my line – I tested it and in the snapshot randomly B has been even faster some Mb. If it works or not may be dependent on operator to support both. On slower lines you may see about 1Mb/s slower speeds with Annex B.
In Germany they only used Annex_B as most have been on ISDN, different in other countries where only ISDN lines used Annex_B and the rest Annex_A. Modems supported both 20 years ago, but may me limited to only one in firmware and on provider side. So modems sold in Germany often has been fixed on B and same modem sold anywhere else had the option to change or autodedect Annex-mode.
So I dont understand why in BG on lines not using ISDN they use little slower Annex B.
For sure you all know how to do practically in GB, just courious that it is like it is from theoretical aspect ;-)

Thought ISDN has only been in central Europe (mostly Germany and single lines around).

You have to wait some days maybe weeks for stable versions, this first alpha is not usable:
https://www.snbforums.com/threads/dsl-ac68u-asuswrt-merlin-builds-for-dsl-routers.55985/
Maybe you can help him to proove his builds and report back any bugs:
Which beta Merlin? Merlin never supported DSL modems.
You will have to test them how GNUtons and stock Asus are working together, should be no problem but it is just too early to say!
As soon as it is stable I would use this fork with much more possibilities on both devices, especially on main router.
Be patient !!! – think in september they will have it run reliable.

Merlin uses Asus GPL (public codebase) and makes his improvents (security and bug fixes, driver updates and many features including the possibility to run your own scripts) based on it. But only for Asus RT routers.
GNUton uses Merlins GPL and adapts it for DSL-AC68U which is very similar to RT-AC68U, most hardware is the same beside DSL-part.
@UK Sentinel: Would be really interesting for me to have his knowledge ;-)
I can recommend to use their enhanced and updated firmwares, they are public and everybody can use and compile it on his own as it is or add your special changes before.
