TR-069 is part of the game, you only need to delete TR-069 user before you connect it to DSL and deactivate TR-069 in security settings. And nothing can be done remote from provider.
I’m also with Zen (UK) and you can’t change/disable TR-069 settings on the Fritz!box 7530 they provide: that’s why I had to follow the instructions as per my previous post (perhaps other ISPs in other countries give the user the flexibility to disable that option…).

The FritzBox 7530 provided by Zen isn’t locked to them, It allows you to use with other ISPs in the software as Username and Password isn’t locked into the firmware (at least the model I had).
It’s not locked, but it’s still got some custom settings, i.e. TR-069, etc.
I did follow that instructions and I got a ‘vanillila’ unit

Lots of zeros’s , somebody did mention that there was a beta firmware for the Vigor 166, did you try that ?
Frankly, I never liked being a beta tester…

I see several EU dealers are now taking pre-orders for the new GEN2 (212Mhz) version of the EU model. (V166-A GEN2) Price seems to be the same as for the GEN 1
Which resellers, please?

I probed DrayTeK again and this time they kindly revealed the new Vigor 166 (Gen 1) is indeed using the VRX618 Intel chipset

Intel AnyWAN SoC GRX350 + Intel AnyWAN Transceiver VRX618

I don’t have problems with my 80/20 connection, it’s just that in February I will upgrade to G.Fast 200/30 and thought to optimise my WiFi as much as possible…

Thanks all, and yes unfortunately I cannot install cables… I might try the powerlines once I will make sure all the sockets are part of the same electrical circuit: any suggestions on how to check that?
Lastly, would it make any improvement to connect the two repetears each other to get a kind of cycle – assuming it’s even possible ?

Just in case you didn’t already read it, it’s an interesting article: https://en.avm.de/guide/crossband-repeating-an-important-function/

Thanks Grisu, and I agree that a 1200 wil be more than enough with my 80/20 FTTCÂ

I think I will save a few quid and will go with the 1200 – I don’t see an actual benefit of installing a 2400 (plus in the future when WiFi 6E will be established, I will go with a full mesh)…

After years of troubles using both Asus and Netgear routers, I decided it’s time to change and I will stick with the Fritz!box, and I was thinking to buy a repetear (the 1200 should be a good match for the 7530?), and my noob question is: will this halve my WiFi speed or what?
I’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to WiFi repeaters and not sure if this will actually create a mesh topology ? If so, does it mean WiFi speed won’t be halved ?
The 7530 is running as an access point connected to my OPNsense router.

Not sure if this article can help: https://en.avm.de/service/fritzbox/fritzbox-7530/knowledge-base/publication/show/257_Installing-an-older-FRITZ-OS-downgrade/

it is downside on the left (in grey) View: standard or advanced (shoud be shown for all possible visible) I deleted remote config user TR-069 so I cant see it anymore on my router. Yes it is possible to load open firmware on these routers, but much to complicated and not neccessary for me. Might not be that complicated but for me it seems to be and there are few informations how to do, most are to be found between the lines of 150 pages threads for experienced linux users. Somehow while booting you have to break in and start some commands, then you can load your open firmware in parallel and start it instead of original restricteds one from provider. Newer boxes have 2 firmwares which could toggle on failure AFAIK. Might be a much to simple explanation, but as first step what and where to look for.
Thanks for the info and as I’m not so experienced, at least not with Linux, so it’s no go for me…
