I’m on 591. Not sure what FEC is? Hehehe. If you tell me then I can tell you. It seems pretty fast to me. Faster than my IP says it should be :-)

However, I’ve left Schrodinger’s router to its own devices for a while and suddenly it’s at 100 days with only 47% RAM used. Everything works, or at least everything I’ve turned on. The thing that I think has made the most difference and which has seemed to stop things going wrong has been to turn off the vpn. With that off I’ve had no problems, up to ten devices connected to both 2.4 and 5ghz, two drives attached to USB, streaming hi-def music through the USB 3.0 & up to 20 torrents running through the USB 2.0. I suppose I’m not asking anything highly technical of it, but for my purposes it’s doing fine for the moment.

I’ve no issues. Up for 44 days, 49% RAM in use. It did rise to 56% a few weeks ago, but I had a problem with transmission, had to disable and reenable which dropped the RAM usage back to 47%. I’m not asking much of it at the moment, but it seems to be working fine.

So, this means it’s going to be around nine months between releases for a flagship router than still doesn’t work properly? Mine works sort of OK as long as everything is off and I don’t connect too many devices (so how is it different to lesser routers costing half the price?).
I’m really disillusioned with ASUS by now. If/when I have to get another it seems like it will be a FritzBox. I’d get a standalone ASUS and separate modem, but at this stage – after issues with the dsl55u, the dsl56u (you’d think I’d learn!) and now this I think my days with this company are over.
It seems the problem with this router is that they’ve decided to move on from it. Perhaps their problem will be that many will move on from them. Companies as big as ASUS, however, seem able to absorb negative publicity such is their share of the market.

I’m at nearly 37 days and still on 47% usage. No issues at all. I bet that the next time it reboots it doesn’t come back in the state it’s in now. The only difference between this time and the last more buggy time it booted up is that vpn is off. Other than that I’ve got between five and seven devices connected, two hdds, one running quite a lot of torrents and the other is used to stream high res audio (previous routers would have a bottleneck with high res audio, torrents, and browsing happening all at once, but not this one).

I turned off the VPN at the last reboot. I’ve not bothered with AiP. Seems like as long as you don’t ask it to do much it’s fine. Which is hardly the point of this router …

I’ve no idea what caused it. It came about quickly, not over a period of weeks. I’m not keen to say anything too positive about its present performance because each time I do so on here something bad happens shortly afterwards.
As I’ve mentioned, I don’t have much happening over wifi at the moment, thought that can change from time to time. I’ll have a few Macs, some iPhones and a few more androids here next week so I’ll brace myself. It will be interesting to see if connecting additional devices has any noticeable effects on mine.

I’m at 50% RAM used which is what it’s sat at for the last couple of weeks more or less. It really is the luck of the draw as to the state this router boots into.

I’ve no idea why. Mine since last reboot has been pretty stable. RAM usage is steady at @50%, little variations over time, but nothing much. It’s been up for 27 days now.
It seems to me that it can reboot into slightly different states. The previous time it rebooted it ran with very low RAM usage (@43%) for a while, before inexplicably rising to 99% for a couple of days. This time it’s been solid. Someone who knows more than me may know if this could be the case. Who knows. Anyways, for the present I’m moreorless happy with mine. Saying this is usually the kiss of death.
p.s. yes, it’s great having this forum, it makes up for the loss of the ASUS ViP forums.

Appreciated. I’ll see if I can find some time at some stage to give it a try and from there attempt to install deluge. I’m sure this would fix many of my woes with this router.

I tried, but I really don’t know very much about it so I failed. I wanted to put deluge on it. There are plenty of ‘how to’ pages online, but none of them worked for me. I was using the 583 debug at the time (the one asus sent me and then later emailed me asking where I’d got it from). If any ‘how to’ appears here I’d be interested in trying again :-)
