I’ve given up on ever using AiProtection.

Meanwhile, 591 is a bit meh really. First time around it rebooted itself, but was running at 190mb RAM used. Then after a few days an issue with the application whose name can’t be mentioned caused the RAM usage to spike to 98% and remain there for three days (this is what the GUI reported at any rate) without dropping back at all. Eventually I rebooted the system. Up for nine days now but RAM usage is 251mb instead of the 190 previously. I don’t really care, as long as it works, but it does seem strange that things should change like this despite all the settings remaining the same. When I get some spare money I’ll probably sell it and get an RT model. From what you say UK Sentinel it sounds like ASUS are throwing in the towel with this router, slowly, but surely.

No, no clues about anything in the log, just a load of info about the VPN. I can’t make much out from the DSL log, it’s synced back at the same speed, so that’s OK. It’s been up 30secs less than the router. The last firmware dropped the connection once, but it didn’t reboot the whole router as is the case this time.

Two days in with 591 and I’ve had a random reboot, the result of which being my printer has lost the network. Before this happened things were looking good. RAM usage was stable, though there did seem to be more CPU activity than on previous builds. A reboot so soon after flashing firmware surely isn’t a good sign. The last firmware stayed up for 28 days. I don’t know what caused it and didn’t notice it had happened – despite working online – until I attempted to print something.

Whilst time, as someone once said, is the master, ASUS’s download master is a bit of a disaster.

I’ve been noticing some rather intense periods of cpu usage, something that definitely wasn’t evident in 585.

Ha! Great, I was 18 hours away from 30 days uptime with 231mb of Ram used. I couldn’t see much point in waiting to see what happened so I’ve just upgraded to 591. Let’s see what happens now. I’m leaving AiP off for a while. Currently it’s not doing a good job of installing Download Master.

Well, I did connect a few more devices by wifi over the weekend, and did find that usage went up. It’s now at 225mb, was at 220, two days ago. It’s very slow, but it’s definitely happening. It’s definitely a waiting game. Quite what will happen if after 30 days it reboots, I’m not sure. Seems like maybe ASUS have moved on. Live with it or sell it I suppose.

Why then is jetspeed’s router steadily increasing its RAM usage – theirs is a DSL? I’m awaiting the magic 30 days up. If it gets past that I’ll stop checking it all the time!

I’m not entirely convinced that this is affecting me. I’m on day 13 and RAM usage is at 219mb, so it’s gone up maybe 2mb over the last five days. I’ve got 15 torrents running, vpn is on, AiP off, between three and five devices connected.

Well the inexorable rise continues. I’m up to 217mb today. Last time I posted it was 210mb. It’s not rising fast, but it’s been up for 8 days, and started off in 194 zone (I think). It’s not fast enough to be exciting! I’ll check back next week.

Well mine is sitting at 208mb now. I’ve never seen if at 180! Not even right after flashing and before connecting to vdsl. I’ve never turned on AiProtection because I don’t trust it not to cause problems.

Previously I had the 585 beta which seemed to be OK right up until a month in – from what I could tell 30 days almost exactly – when it rebooted and then continued to reboot every couple of hours. I’m now waiting to see if the same things happens in 24 days’ time.

I’ve had three ASUS routers and never quite grasped that it’s the integrated dsl that causes the problems. I might put this one on ebay, get an rt ac86u and use talktalk’s free huawei in bridge mode. My only concern with that is that it’s another socket and another device on all the time.

Day 5 on 385 here and flushing back to 210mb with no AI. I was on 194 when I first flashed it. Also getting lots of cpu spikes to 100% even when the router is presumably not doing anything much. I’m not expecting to stop checking the ASUS GUI anytime soon

Beta 586 was using far too much cpu. Both cores were maxing out almost every time I looked. Gone back to 585. It seems much better. Asus seemed to stop talking to me after I refused them remote access.
