October 29, 2021 at 7:46 am in reply to: Windows 11 Beta’s Releases Windows 11 Build 22000.71 (KB5004252) was released on Friday https://www.windowslatest.com/2021/07/15/windows-11-build-22000-71-kb5004252-comes-with-minor-new-features/ In a completely sane world, madness is the only freedom (J.G.Ballard). #15962
I installed windows 11 2/3 weeks ago on my non-supported desktop PC. i7-3770k – Asus P8Z77-V PRO
Followed the the guide below on editing the file ‘appraiserres.dll’
Not sure how long Microsoft will provide updates on non-supported hardware, but the last update did install.
Also updated Lenovo ThinkPad T450 Core i5-5200u

had a teams call via Office laptop, connected through vpn this morning that took about 2 hours : no interruptions whatsoever. yesterday did some streaming video from nas : no interruptions whatsoever. same with remote desktop sessions : no trouble. Conclusion : if Asus finalizes this beta into a new official release, all would be good!! I would (finally) be a happy customer :-)
That is amazing news that it seems like it is fixed for you too.
I have also relayed back to the ASUS contact that this beta is a winner for Teams calls.
@UK Sentinel, any ideas what this firmware is?

I tested for a few hours over the weekend, seemed good but took a huge hit on download speed.

seems we have a winner with this latest beta : been testing a few hours now : video streaming rock solid until now (even 4k), remote desktop same (no freezes), not able to do Teams testing yet, but will do next week. will stay on this beta :-) good job Asus
Great that months of testing may not have gone to waste. It would be great if you could continue testing on Teams as well. I had to revert back for Parental Control.

Just had a 3 hour Teams call and had no issues at all with the new beta 46197
. Took a slight hit on speedtest, not sure if it is a coincidence.Going back to 45898 as I need Parental Control.

@Jacky Decoster my Surface Pro (from work) is connected to a node (1 of 3 nodes) that is furthest away from the main XT8 that is connected to the ISP router. The Surface Pro is connected wirelessly to this node and also uses work VPN (I think it is called zscaler). I have a total of 4 XT8’s including the main unit.
The one thing I do is have my 5GHz-1 set to channel 36 and the 5GHz-2 SSID is hidden. Not sure if that actually makes any difference.
Have fun testing…..

Tested today on several Teams calls and it has been rock solid for me on this new beta. I will continue testing for rest of the week. It will be good to see if @Jacky Decoster has better luck with Teams on this. I did a full factory reset and started from scratch without restore. I’ll need to go back to stable firmware after, as I need parental control.

Seems like the limitation is the 80MHz on the 5GHz-1. The wired speed on my PC seems good, which is where I got 852Mbps DL and 927 Mbps UL. These seem like unachievable with wireless backhaul.
Looks like only way to get faster is to use wired backhaul and utilize the 5GHz-2 for wifi (not really possible for me).

The fastest speed I got was 653Mbps UL and 830Mbps DL on the 5GHz-1. This is from the main XT8 router. The furthest XT8 is still roughly 500Mbps UL and DL. I didn’t get the 1Gb for the additional speed, got it just the £15 savings and the stability.

I can confirm that for me Teams is as stable as 42095.
Just been upgraded today to 1Gb broadband for £20 with Hyperoptic (Special 10 year anniversary deal they have going). Getting amazing speeds wired from the XT8 main router (852Mbps DL and 927 Mbps UL). Much lower wireless speeds with Wifi 6 device.

Does anyone know what is the fastest real world speed possible on the 5GHz-1 band on the XT8?

It might be worth sending ASUS feedback. Hopefully UK Sentinel can help with getting a response from them.

Did a reboot of the devices, free RAM is reporting as roughly 210MB. This is what it was reported with 43181. Connection remains solid so far, time will tell.
EDIT: This is weird, after 10 minutes now free RAM has increased to 250MB!!!!

It has been very stable for me so far. The free RAM of circa 250MB may be a bug or misreporting as I have never seen this much free RAM with previous firmware. I will do a complete reboot and see if that remains 250MB free, if so that is amazing.
