Hi all,
Managed to get the firmware installed, appears it didn’t like doing it remotely so all good.
Noticed no further firmware releases since Jan, has Asus stopped supporting/creating firmware for the rt-ax86U/86S? It is to be replaced by a new router? Last year was a new firmware every couple of months or so.

Thanks, Upon reading it worked in a mirror raid, I figured no reason it wouldn’t work in a raid 5 so ordered then. They arrived today, I’ve added them and also created new volume on nas. It’s currently doing parity check of the new volume so will leave that as it will take several hours so will look at moving data to it probably tomorrow evening or the weekend :) Basically setting up a new volume to hold backups of data I store locally on the PC as well as to re-locate some stuff from the 1st volume onto the 2nd volume to free up a bit more space on the first volume as its currently approx 75% full.

Hi,
Many thanks, I tried to do it remotely and it failed so I’m waiting till I have some more time to do it when I’m on the local lan and see if it works.
Doing it remotely it failed very soon after starting to upload.
At least this explains why the check firmware says its up to date and not prompt with the latest version :)
I’ll let you know when i can get back to this, likely be end of the month due to work and also looking at some other issues i have atm :)

Sure, will do, thanks
ok, just odd router firmware check says its UpToDate which implies 46061 isn’t compatible/for it..

Hi,
I did but when I clicked the Check button to check for firmware updates on the RT-AX86S it said it was running the latest version, however, it was not 46061, it is running 45934.
I tried to manually update it but it said it failed so I thought maybe it’s failed as it isn’t for the RT-AX86S only the RT-AX86U so thought I’d ask here to see if anyone else has come across this.

Hi,
Yes, on FTTP, just got the ONT box and then AX86S plugged in, not using smarthub at all so its basically default setup using normal router. It registered first time using default name so left it but since powering off for few hours and back on, it didn’t register ddns on router, it had all the same name etc just wasn’t registered so hence I’ve now changed name and registered so fingers crossed it remains just wondered if this was a common issue or bug?
On plus side I got a more user friendly name now :)Â Fortunately only needed to edit openVPN file to change the name of the ddns address it uses to connect, didn’t have to re-do vpn settings etc :)

Yes, i had to confirm couple of times in chat just to be clear as I’m sure there must be a catch but nope… that’s the price and as i pay line rental up front, its a lower monthly cost but if i paid monthly would be less than ÂŁ32.99 :)
Amazing price.. its only ÂŁ2 more than they wanted for me previous 36MB package… so seemed a no brainer considering additional speed FTTP gives so should be able to stream 4K films etc now :)
Plus was told I wont get this years price increase but will get it in 2023 (whatever it is then, the standard RPI/CPI increase) so not too bad at all. Just hoping next year price increases isn’t another 9% etc…

Hi, I got my FTTP 150mb for less than ÂŁ32.99 a month, albeit no 3 months free… They charged me to deliver smarthub 2.

Hi,
As an example, lets say FTTP with no phone at all, they will charge lets say £35. If I say I want to keep my phone line and have FTTP, they will charge me £35 BUT you can pay your line rental up front for 1 year which works out that you effectively get 1 month for free last I knew.
So either way they are still charging you line rental so makes no sense to not have it.
I believe in big towns, there are companies that will provide just FTTP with no line rental and then you can sign up to a VOIP provider and move your number BUT BT will still charge you regardless.
Where i live, I don’t have a option to go with a supplier that wont charge line rental jet but I suspect that will come eventually and by then, BT will prob drop the line rental charge to remain competitive or they will loose too much business, atm they have a bit of a monopoly tbh.

Yes, i still have original phone service as before as I’m not being moved to digital voice according to the engineer that visited. BT website said I was getting it BUT when they sent the info of what we being sent, it was only smarthub, not the digital phone I believe they send also so I thought maybe it would come later after the fibre was fitted but seems not.
BT order now says its been completed so not expecting to get anything else.
My biggest issue with the VOIP system I have is that every time power goes out and it comes back on, the VOIP box I have fails to register. I have to go in and change the SIP and RTP ports and then it automatically registers, no issue at all.
I’ve now tried to use port forwarding but I’m not entirely sure I have set it up correctly but I’ve done it so will tell next time power goes out.
Only issue now is I removed the BT phone, which involves feeding the wire down a small gap as I was thinking wont need that anymore but now I’ll have to put it back at some point lol, that’s even if I bother using it, which tbh it’s seldom used. BT even looked it up once as they were trying to sell me a “phone package” and I told them I rarely use it and they said let me check as people often say that but are surprised by how much do they actually use it, sure enough not 1 call over that contract period was made from the phone lol

HI all,
Well got Fibre installed today, couldn’t be there as couldn’t get the day off but its installed.
According to the engineer who visited i wont be getting Digital voice as they are leaving the existing copper line in place. Also form viewing online, it seems the smart hub has to be the main router which i’d sooner not have so suspect I will ignore it for now and in the future i may just ditch the line altogether providing BT drop there ÂŁ200+ quid a year line rental for effectively a line I wont have with no telephone :)
