February 21, 2022 at 7:51 pm in reply to: Boiler Query Hi all, So been visiting parents for a few days and it seems, the power went out some point over the last week and must of been a longer than... #17904
Hi,
Power has been going off to whole place so yes, it’s done it at least once the past 3 days, all power to property goes out for anywhere up to a few mins and then its back on and everything comes back up etc.
Nest link shows a green LED when you press it which indicates connected to know knowledge, if it’s blue then it has lost connection and needs re-setting up /pairing so that all looks ok, I’m kind of thinking its the programmer in the boiler not accepting any settings until it has day/time etc.
I have a nest protect (smoke detector) and that has a battery back up so remains online. Weirdly the other day it was showing OFF and when checking status it had orange icon next to WIFI but I could access it from my mobile and when I connect to my router, it shows it connected so bit odd, it has since corrected itself and shows online and all ok.
That keeps a history of power failures so hence I can tell when it goes out.
power failure has occurred minimum of once for 5 out of the last 7 days, for no more than a few mins each time.
Looks to be the downside of getting power overhead as opposed to underground :(Â it’s never been like this, usually it happens once every few months as a rough average.
I wonder if they will start to run power cables underground rather than overhead.. have to see if I can find if any plans to do that.

February 21, 2022 at 3:39 pm in reply to: Boiler Query Hi all, So been visiting parents for a few days and it seems, the power went out some point over the last week and must of been a longer than... #17901The heat link is wired to boiler But the nest display where you can change it on the unit etc is wireless via threads to the heat link.
I looked at the Hive system as I quiet liked the display etc BUT it cannot be wired, it runs via batteries and I didn’t want to have to keep replacing batteries. The nest heat link has 2 batteries and run from power also so batteries are effectively a backup for power outages etc is my understanding, but could be wrong.
It’s just strange as the nest-e been working fine until recently… I’m partly thinking its the programmer as every time power goes out now it go to asking for time, date, year etc… it seems to remember the times I set it to come on/go off but it seems that isn’t being used until I set the time/date/year etc.
Previously the power would go out and it was fine but now it doesn’t keep it any more. I’ve looked but I don’t see any mention of a battery anywhere. I just says if power is off more than 3hrs, you need to reset the time/date etc but it’s not been off for more than a few minutes so unsure why its prompting. It maybe as simply as the programmer has gone faulty and I need to replace it but not sure.
Plus it seems Nest isn’t able to control the boiler even when it is on as not going to the set temp so half of me things – its the programmer, once it is set then it behaves, another part of me things, maybe it’s the nest-e….
Thanks for link, will take a look at that and see if its compatible/will work if I don’t get anywhere with the Nest-E / programmer.

February 20, 2022 at 8:54 pm in reply to: Boiler Query Hi all, So been visiting parents for a few days and it seems, the power went out some point over the last week and must of been a longer than... #17896So the programmer on my ideal logic 24 boiler is in-built into the boiler so to speak. I’ve set it to come on at certain times of the day and to then go off at certain times each day. Same schedule every day. In order for boiler to use programmer it is set to Run mode.
The Nest-E basically is set to the temps I want it to be in the property i.e. 21 if I’m home, if I’m away, I set it to ECO mode which is set to 15C. Therefore boiler should only come on when programmer is set to come on AND temp in property is below 21 (if home) or 15 if not home, if not, it stays off.
However, neither is happening and it seems to be defaulting to around 28C somehow, unsure why…
Reason I don’t set boiler to Continuous and then let Nest-E turn boiler on and off is:-
- If temp gets low of a night, it wants to turn boiler on and I don’t seem to be able to stop it. I know there is a fail safe/emergency mode that if temps get real low, it will turn boiler on to prevent pipes freezing etc but Nest-E wants to turn boiler on way above that level i.e. 3 or 4 degrees i seem to recall.
- As place gets power cuts, varies on how often, not daily or weekly but came be every couple or few months, I’ve noticed Nest-E doesn’t always re-connect so not ideal, hence left it that programmer turns it on or off and Nest simple tells it what temp to be at, which has been working fine for 4 months or so.
Perhaps I need some sort of all in 1 device i.e. WIFI thermostat & programmer that’s wired to boiler so it’s just 1 unit that does it all rather than 2 units and talk to each other, if that exists…
Thanks

February 20, 2022 at 8:23 pm in reply to: Boiler Query Hi all, So been visiting parents for a few days and it seems, the power went out some point over the last week and must of been a longer than... #17890Hi all,
Yes, the thermostat is set to 15C due to being at my parents, usually it is set to 21 when heating is set to come on and I set it to 15 when I want it off.
It’s has been on today all day at around 28C all day! So I think at this point, I’ve no real option but just turn the boiler off and then just turn the boiler on when I’m there for now as whilst I’m out at work etc, the programmer doesn’t seem to turn the boiler on/off so I’m basically paying for 28C heating all day, can’t afford to keep paying that, not now the prices have gone up and are going up again, going to get very expensive. Thing is, I’m not sure even if I re-instated the manual thermostat that the boiler would even recognise that.
Maybe what I need to a thermostat that is wired to the boiler BUT that I can access remotely via a app so I can check it and set the programmer/temp as needed as opposed to Test which has 2 components – nest & the nest link.

February 19, 2022 at 7:25 pm in reply to: Boiler Query Hi all, So been visiting parents for a few days and it seems, the power went out some point over the last week and must of been a longer than... #17872Hi,
So this is how it has been working for several months…
Programmer tells boiler what time to come on and off
Nets Thermostat-E tells it the temp to be at, which effectively then stays off or comes on and heats to require temp.
It’s been working ok in the past, it comes on if its below 15 and heats up to 15 and goes off etc as needed.
But since the power went out some time last week, the Nest-E still is in eco mode and set to 15 but the programmer in the boiler lost its date/time etc so seems some how has had the temp up to 27….. no idea where it got 27 from…
Thanks

One issue i had with my previous iphone was the ear piece, the volume went on it and I could barely hear anyone on it, this was on a iphone 6. Not on every call, some where ok but others were really bad, android I’ve not had any calls I couldn’t hear people on but I think the phones have got a bit thicker now so maybe the ear pieces have improved now?

yes, i heard rumours no buttons but appears now maybe not the 14 and also finger print scanner maybe under the screen but not sure if that coming off or not yet either.
Need to wait to hear more on the specs of the 14 to see if can justify it..

Yes, that was another reason I held off for a bit going to Android that some updates caused issues with apps or app updates themselves caused a issue.
I had it with my email client on my Android phone, all worked fine and then got a update and then it never worked properly, kept crashing or taking ages to update, upon looking online, it was a known issue experienced by lots of people and eventually a fix was released and all was well but in that time i had to find a different app to access what I needed, bit annoying.
One good thing for Apple is that there system is tightly monitored and apps need testing, approval etc to avoid such issues mostly which was always a plus for them.
As you say, the gap isn’t that big now tbh so I might switch back to Apple, not decided yet, was hoping to upgrade to newer phone but the S22 just doesn’t seem worth it on initial looking so bit disappointed tbh. Nothing really sticks out to make me justify the ÂŁ750 price tag

Yes, high prices…. Yes saw the 4nm processor but wasn’t sure how much less usage it would be given display is 12ohz… S20 is 5G (mine is) and has 12GB ram. Phone not damaged, its more doesn’t get any real updates after 1 year, only security stuff for possible 1 more year then nothing….
iPhone 14 is likely to be same price – just keep going up and up it seems… I moved away from Apple due to high prices and lack of features compared to Android but it seems Android has now come up to the same prices as Apple and now Apple has pretty much caught up on features so might switch back plus Apple update there phones for 5 years it seems so has advantage there.
Alternative is I could trade the S20 5G in but kind of feels like getting a lower spec phone some how…

I tried looking a bit more, on vodafone forum, it indicates superfast1 & 2 is FTTC but superfast 100 is FTTP from what I can gather so seems strange they offer 100mbps max but guarantee 50mbps if its FTTP, no one else is sharing the connection?
Price is appealing for FTTP (if it truly is FTTP) but slight concerned over the odd 100mbps instead of the standard 145/150… seems a bit suspect some how…

I have FTTP available in my area but Vodaphone’s description is a bit vague on there website so hence the question as unsure.. I thought FTTC could only go to 76/80mbps and above that was FTTP, usually 145mbps but them advertising 100mbps doesn’t quiet fall in either of the above so hence wasn’t sure, maybe it is just FTTC and not full FTTP with ONT box.
I presume can still use my existing Draytek 130 modem etc?
