Yes, fixed them separately due to cheaper separate than on duel, however now, I could fix my gas at 8.xx but that is more than the supposed cap at 7p but unsure… if another increase in Oct, then it might be better to fix now but again I’ve got potentially 6 months or so where it will be summer and low usage but will be a higher DD, albeit end up in credit etc.

I’m still waiting approx. £150 back from my SoLR and no news on that yet.  Current provider says if we stay with them, it will appear in the account as a credit, if we move away, they will send us a cheque.

If I fix, I’d fix for 2 years but that means currently elec runs out 23 and then gas would be 24 so every year I’d be having to sort one or other out, whereas under my previous setup, even though separate, they ran out similar time and I always fixed for 2 years so meant only need to look at it every couple of years which was ideal.

I’m tempted to stay as is on existing tariff, but if they prices go up near Oct, then I guess the Fixed prices would all of risen too which means I’d of missed out again but also if they come down in mid – late 2023, I’d be paying over the odds and face a high exit fee potentially..

I’m tempted to contact current elec provider and see if they will allow me to add my Gas to existing tariff I have with them, which I could of had on duel fuel but I’m not expecting i can do that tbh.

My gas usage is fairly low, last year i used approx 5500 kwh and I was with a small company and the price per kwh was less than 3p, obviously a bigish jump to the current price cap since they went out of business.  Will be another increase if i fix, currently seeing provider offering gas a just over 8p so decisions decisions

Hi all,

So what do people think? Is it worth moving to a fixed rate tariff to avoid future price rises? Even though they are a bit above the new cap coming in, if they increase again in Oct/April 2023, you could then benefit from the fixed price?  Or should remain variable and just pay the new cap rates?

For myself, the new cap rate is cheaper than any fix I can find, not too much in it but still a difference.  I could switch to a 2yr fix but if prices come down as lots of people predict in 2023 when companies will start competing again etc, I’d be stuck on a higher tariff and with a potentially larger exit fee (depending who I go with).

Fortunately, my Elec is fixed till 2023 so that’s good, its just my Gas that isn’t.  Ironically, my elec provider is the one I’m considering moving my Gas to.  Slightly kicking myself as I could of moved my gas to them and got a dual tariff and the rates were pretty good, just my existing provider beat them, they were a small company but had been good to date so decided to stay loyal to them and support them etc. so not sure how that will work if i moved to them as i guess maybe 2 different accounts due to not being dual fuel and one fixed till 2023 and the new one would be fixed till 2024

Yes, I staying where I am atm as the move hasn’t fully completed yet, still waiting for my credit to arrive with current provider.

Most comparison site are not providing quotes, at least not as many companies as there was so will see prob next month.

I’m not keen on provider I’m with atm but just sticking with it as cheaper prices atm and waiting for the “switch” to completely fully as it where from SoLR to this provider.

For myself, my Elec is fixed till next year, but my Gas was fixed till next year too but unfortunately they went under, not through any faulty of there own, the company they bought gas from pulled out and there was no way they could compete then so I’m now on variable rate and it’s difficult to know what to do for the best.  At the moment, the price cap rate is far better than any fixed rate BUT assuming the rates go up to what they say in the above table and I suspect each area/region will vary, some of the fixes now are more than that.

Plus there is also a rumour of a further 20% increase in October so hard to know what’s best.

I kept my Elec/gas separate as it was cheaper than a dual fuel tariff and I prefer to have them run out around the same time so I can re-fix both and then forget about it for couple of years rather.

Going to see what happens this/next month and decide but most comparisons are saying they wont quote etc.

I believe industry is hoping in 2023, companies will become more competitive again and then will be about to get better rates but at the moment not, even the exit feels are going crazy, I seen some £11 – 200 pound exit fees… used to be £25-30 per fuel max…

Also, I believe the £150 council tax rebate (discount) is only for people in bands A-D.

Thanks all, will see how it goes then.  At times I hear the fans etc kick in a fair but when viewing say videos etc so hence thought would be my gfx card struggling but will see how it goes.

New case arrived today so will likely swap the bits over the weekend and see what its like then.

Update on this..

Since I did the firmware update, the ILO and server itself IP are now both showing, so unsure if router simply needed a reboot to pick it up or if the firmware was the issue but since updating to .46061, it now shows up…

Rather odd but at least it is showing now :)

Hi All,

Finally upgraded my computer today…. It turns out the CPU cooler i bought, despite being the correct one, didn’t fit very well on my motherboard, it virtually was sitting on some capacitors and was a very tight fit between the 2 brackets needed to connect to the MB first so decided to pull that and ordered a different one, came today and fits much better, despite a bit of working out how to fit as the box says for 1151 socket and I have a 1200, so i thought amazon had put the wrong details on, went to manufacturers site, the first bit of specs doesn’t say 1200, but scrolling down it then says 1200 socket and the box it came in, even though says 1151, in the specs on the side 1200 is listed.  But the manual only shows for 1366, 1151, 1156, 775, no 1200 so basically had 3 options for where to put the screws so had to try each one to see what lined up, typically it was the last one I tried.

The came the next issue, the case I bought is not a bad case but there is hardly any room in it, with the PSU and the DVD drive I barely have enough room to fit the cables in, need to fit the cables first before putting them in.  Also then connected up everything to get a basic system working for now to test if Win 11 would activate etc, the it just no room to feed the cables round.

So I’ve ordered another case which will arrive mid week.

On the plus side, I’ve got the PC running now, I have left the panels off and I first loaded with existing SSD, that was surprising quick to load, no installing drivers etc… It also shows Windows as activated.. i installed the NIC, rebooted, still activated so shut down, pulled the SSD, powered back up using the on-board M.2, booted off USB stick with Win 11 installation, did a fresh install, it asked for a key so I put in my Win 7 key, it took a bit but then went through!  All activated when logged into Win 11!  Rather surprised as I read Win 11 install wouldn’t take a Win 7 key… so so far all is good.

I’m just in the process of re-installing all my apps etc as all I need to do is remove the components and fit into the new case.  Only item left to fit that I haven’t so far is my sound card but I’m using onboard sound for now.

I had a full tower case before but I don’t really need a case that big now due to having a NAS etc, previously I used to just have HDs in the PC and have data on them but now I’ve pretty much kept most data on the nas, I have 1 3.5″ HDD that i keep some data on on the PC but that’s about it.

I’m going to use my old OS SSD as a second SSD eventually, atm its connected up as a additional drive purely for pulling files off it etc.

So far Win 11 not too bad, some parts I prefer the old win 10 for i.e. My Computer window doesn’t have the File menu now and they have re-named/changed the settings again so had to re-find where the options where i needed to change etc but so far not too bad.

Thanks, sorry I meant I’m installing Windows 11 but it will be joined to a Windows 2022 domain, therefore not using a MS account :)

Hi Thanks, I have setup a domain at home with a windows 2022 DC so don’t use MS Account, I’ll try it and see how I get on but I suspect my existing SSD wont boot as it will be new MB, new CPU, new ram, M.2 drive (previous is a 2.5″ SSD, only items being moved from old PC to new is gfx card (if it will work) and PSU.  If gfx card wont work, I’ll need to buy one, took a bit of a gamble here.

I have a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660, 2GB, had it a while now and been ok to day, no doubt showing its age now but will do for now to get new system up and running.  CPU has no gfx or cooling so hence using existing gfx card and bought a fan for the cpu separately, advantage being could get a slightly faster CPU this way.

Thanks, It will be new hardware so new motherboard, CPU etc and want to do a clean install of Windows 11 and use a Windows 7/8 key to activate it if possible.  I have retail key for both win7 and windows 8 so can use either key if it will work.

Existing machine is approx 10 years old now so showing its age, only item being carried over to new machine will be a gfx card and a couple of drives as secondary drives, main OS will be on a M.2 drive :) oh and PSU will be carried over also :)

Yes, DHCP only goes up to around .133, I’ve left the remaining IPs for static assignment.  Eventually I will reduce DHCP scope but at the moment the highest DHCP address is .133 so I set the max to .133.
