Ok, just checked with ASUS as to the Progress with the DSL-AC88U next Formal release (stock)
‘I assume DSL-AC3100 and DSL-AC88U -B will be the same’.
ASUS say, there test team have just completed the testing and the firmware (which is based upon Beta585) will be released on support site/live update server. ETA by next Wednesday.

November 1, 2018 at 10:12 am #1340November 1, 2018 at 10:22 am #1341I hope ‘based upon’ isn’t a euphemism for ‘is’
It looks suspicious indeed, so they have a team testing an unreleased beta and such team was not able to release nada, zero, niente, nothing for the last 10 months, I doubt it is a new version, they said by the end of October and now it will be by almost mid of November, watch them extend that timeline for another 2 weeks because somehow they found something (contradicting that there was a team testing)
Sorry for my lack of trust, but I have no other opinion on Asus after suffering with my PCIe network card which their Windows driver works when it wants, I honestly regret that I bought the DSL version, it seems that without Merlin firmwares Asus can’t handle such task.

November 1, 2018 at 1:30 pm #1342Alas most router manufacturers/coders for routers are based in that part of the world, so a common problem.
Thank goodness for AVM and ‘all hail RMerlin’ ;)

November 7, 2018 at 12:56 pm #1369@UK Sentinel, any further news on the new stable firmware release?
I had another Openreach engineer visit today, wasn’t actually told about this. He checked the line and did a full DLM reset. Connection seems to be back to normal. In a couple of days should get full 80/20 MB again. Apparently the last guy didn’t actually do a reset.

November 8, 2018 at 10:25 am #1373No, nothing there. Either a) they are packing the firmware full of exciting new features b) they’ve discovered loads of bugs that need putting right c) are far too busy doing other stuff for more recent routers or d) the paranoid option, they are delaying the release to make it seem like it’s substantially different to 585. I’d go for c myself.
Aside from the inexplicable reboots I experienced over a month ago – never repeated – I’m happy with 585 anyway. I don’t want to tempt fate, but everything I need is working …

November 8, 2018 at 12:40 pm #1374a) I do hope not, god help us if they do without beta testing by Joe public
b) Defo my preferred option along with c)
d) a sceptic ;-)

November 9, 2018 at 12:42 pm #1382Thanks darkblak and UK Sentinel.
You wait ages for a bus and then 2 come along at once……
I have flashed the new beta build586 twice, once with UI factory reset after flashing and once with manual factory reset after flashing.
