This is the speed I am getting from the room furthest away from the main BQ16 unit. I used to get maximum 600-700Mbps up and down with the 3 BT10.
It is basically similar Wi-Fi speed that I get standing right next to the main BQ16 unit.
The MLO mesh connection quality fluctuates between GREAT and OK. I think any RSSI dBm 70 or over makes the quality go from GREAT to OK.
Also, now my smart TV connects to the 5GHz Wi-Fi, and not the 2.4GHz as it can see the 5GHz-1 SSID.

Not sure how long I will keep this one for. Already sold the BT10’s, gone within a few hours. Seems like it is very popular.
I will next sell the XT8’s when I am happy with the BQ16.

I have one of my smart devices on the BT10 lose connection on the 2.4GHz and my smart TV needs 5GHz channels 48 and below to connect at 5GHz. When I set 5GHz channel 48, the MLO connection goes from GREAT to OK, maybe because all those lower channels are congested.
I will test to see if that can be resolved on the BQ16 as it has 2 5GHz?
2 years support will really be horrific though for such a premium priced product.

I will ask him if I can test it and then make a decision on buying.
I don’t think all the 6GHz channels on BQ16 Pro are supported in the UK?
BQ16 (non-pro) was released in 2024, 4 years support should mean 2028? Or is it just 2 years support on it? If so, that would be a real real bummer.

I am looking at buying a bigger house. Currently in the flat 2 BQ16 will suffice with the brick walls and Wi-Fi interference. I can add a third when I move into a bigger house.

I have managed to source 2 pack Asus BQ16 for ÂŁ750-ÂŁ800 from the same guy.
It looks like he was selling liquidation stock and ex-display items.
Thinking about selling the BT10’s for a small profit and getting the BQ16. Not sure if it’s a good idea. It does give greater upgrade potential in the future.

Sounds encouraging?? Hopefully this can be implemented with an update. What a game changer that will be if it’s possible. The wireless range would be amazing around my flat. Currently get highest 620Mbps standing next to the furthest away node. This is on a 1Gb Hyperoptic connection.

It will be good to know how MLO backhaul actually works with Asus. Improving this would take the BT10 to another level.
We can then understand MLO fronthaul after that.

I mean the BT10 mesh nodes. Both my BT10 nodes are connected to the main BT10 via wireless backhaul. I have 3 BT10, one is connected to the ISP provided modem, the other 2 are connected to this BT10 via wireless backhaul. The furthest away node has to be connected to the main BT10 to get MLO. If I default it to connect to the node closest to it, MLO wireless backhaul to that node disappears. The one closest to the main BT10 still has MLO.
Hope that makes sense.

I have been tinkering with the setup. It looks like MLO backhaul only works on the unit/s that are connected to the main BT10. Any units that are not getting their wireless backhaul from the main BT10, get conventional wireless backhaul. Is this a limitation on MLO backhaul, or just how ASUS have implemented it?

I have had no issues with any of my devices dropping wireless connection. No complaints so far from the rest of the family, other than the initial setup down time.
Already started tinkering around and turned on ‘MLO Fronthaul for clients’.
My S25 ultra has connected as MLO rather than 5G or 6G.
I think I will leave the tinkering for a bit and see how stable it is. So far so good.

Smarthaul is a new term I am not familiar with so will chat to ASUS at some point, is the above MAC address associated with an Apple product ?

I think that MAC address is the Nintendo Switch

It seems like the web GUI has become snappier for me now, much better than when I first set it up in the afternoon.
Also did a ‘bufferbloat’ test and got B. With the XT8’s it was mostly C. This is with me connected wirelessly to the furthest away node.
Any ideas what this means? Seems to have a lot more log entries than I am used to.

. Superhands Said:Sounds like a great deal you found. Have you confirmed in the ui that it is indeed only the first node that uses MLO?
If using wireless backhaul you may find you have better performance using fewer nodes if the WiFi signal strength itself isn’t a problem with fewer
From my initial testing, nodes have to be connected to the main unit for MLO. I tried to connect my furthest away node to the other node and MLA went away. There may be some workaround that I am not aware of, unless you have some information?

I purchased from a local shop as ‘ex display’ – open boxed. I think they may be closing down soon, so a bit apprehensive when buying.
I have registered it with Asus and registration expiry shows as 11/09/2027. Not sure what that means.
