I know this is old post but wonder if that will work with netgear dm200 which also got one port (netgear dm200 can run latest openwrt 19.07). Do you setup wan/lan on same port on vigor 130? Does ddns working properly with that ip address on asus router?

I got one dm200 for testing and it actually got better lantiq chipset than my old eci modem but wonder if there will be a chance to access UI on dm200 through wan port.

I believe @Grisu mentioned somewhere that it should be international version, seller should state in listing if is international or not. If is not clear then big possibility that GUI will be in German language. Updates should be provided regardless region version.

I have it for couple of years now and from my pc transfer throught wifi 60-80MB/s. When I backed up files from pc 100GB transferred in 30min. Watching hd movie on one tv, kids watching cartoons on other (booth from cloud) never had glitch or buffering.

When I connected usb stick or hdd even usb 3.0 to router it always was slower than current wd through Lan.

Also you can expand cloud memory by connecting to it hdd or flash memory via usb.

May I ask why you run two usb drives? Maybe it’s silly question but a while ago I looked for best way to share files and it turn out that wd cloud connected via lan port to router is best solution and the fastest one for my home use. Of course some people will debate about NAS etc but that just simply comparison between usb drive and drive connected through Lan.

I believe in vigor 130 is similar lantiq chipset like in old eci modem so not much upgrade for me in that case, was considering vigor 165 but is hard to get one in UK for annex A hardware. Then was hope for vigor 166 but that hope nearly died…

I also was looking for fritzbox 7530, but not sure if this one can work properly in bridge mode, it also have lantiq/intel chipsets VRX518 I believe?

I was considering vigor 166 as a modem to my dream combo, as it got one of the latest lantiq/intel chipsets. It’s been promised exactly year ago and still not available…

I believe 7590 should do? In spec it says : Supports 300 Mbit/s VDSL connections, including supervectoring.

@Grisu is the best person to ask about fritzbox.

I personally was considering 7590 after dsl-ac88u, but end up with rt-ax88u as I believe asus with external antennas will have much stronger wifi signal, and I must say I’m not disappointed.

Routers are completely different story, as for routers there is custom fw where are lot of bugs are solved. Merlin guide Asus with future releases and even help them with official releases. Not to mention that in some cases he tested if not even testing now pre release builds. (just info I found online). I use custom fw on my new rt-ax88u and is rock solid, so where I will never look on asus all in one device(modem-router) there is a definitely option for router only from asus.

If you bought yours from the local shop, always is worth to try return it under warranty, and show your expression that is not what you expected for this money…

I was actually lucky with mine because I purchased mine in UK in shop where they don’t argue too much with unhappy customers. I purchased mine in August last year and returned in December. Add up a little bit and bought rt-ax88u as was on offer (35 quid extra to the dsl-ac88u price). Using Merlin fw on it and is stable and is actually working, it does remind me my old rt-ac68u, once is set you forget about it 😊. I got 14 devices connected all together to it 12 wireless and two wired, so far no problems. (there was tiny issue with different fw but with brain storm and help in this forum was quickly sorted).

I think it’s depend to which cabinet you are connected, I’m connected to eci cabinet so the modem with lantiq chipset is the way to go especially that I tried modems with booth lantiq and broadcom chipset and I got good comparison, and of course rt-ax88u as router in my tandem.

I use old eci modem at the moment as it got best performance so far, from these which I tested. I planing to replace it with modem with newer lantiq chipset, just didn’t have time yet to look into this.
