Yes, at present the AVM FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro seems to be the only WIF7 DSL box and as suggested, it is not cheap.

31st Dec 2025 was the minimum software support end date, which also says “extended support may be provided after the stated date”, so it is not EOL.
Asus’ actual EOL page shows the DSL-AX82U as the only current DSL modem router product https://www.asus.com/event/network/EOL-product/ so it might be worth asking given it is not EOL and is their only current DSL modem router product, how long support, and manufacture is planned to last

Hi;
From the Firmware upgrade tab screen you uploaded it looked like auto upgrade and security both had on – off switches, do they not work?
IÂ ask because the retention of the check availability button + beta search switch suggests the only intention is a layout change and therefore that maybe those buttons should work?
All the best

Hi; Does the update include VPN Fusion?
like the previous beta
Thanks, both Fusion and stability adjustment seem to be working as expected. Be interested to see if long uptimes (5 months plus) still kill off traffic monitor as they did with 3.0.0.4.386_45660 for me. (my last update as fusion got removed subsequently)

Good to hear they are may get it fixed. I rely on stability adjustment to keep me at the maximum my package could allow and I have been using 3.0.0.4.386_45660-g37ee6d6 as it was the last one before they pulled VPN Fusion (which it seems this Beta finally reinstates)

It really does depend on what is wanted. The cost of nice to have for future proofing on AImesh devices, (e.g. both of WIFI 6E and one or ideally more than one 2.5 Gbe port) are likely to fall in future and become more common, so the RT AX82U might make sense at the moment. Whatever you go for I would suggest using ethernet for backhaul if you can.

Thanks. It will be interesting to find out what they say. I see that in the notes they mentioned fixing OpenVPN issues, so I wonder if they knew the (single) VPN module worked with the DSL AX82u or was easier to base working on to cure whatever problems there were, so they reverted to it.( I would also be interested in knowing what OpenVPN issues there were which were fixed (if they say), as I have never run into problems with OpenVPN and I use it routinely).
In any event I sincerely hope Asus do ensure the multiple VPN setup works in future firmware for the DSL- AX82u as the ability to choose different VPN’s (or none) for different LAN-Side devices is a key feature for me now, but I would also prefer firmware that was up to date in terms of avoiding vulnerabilities.

Yes I went back to 45660 which was the last version I could see. The only bug in that one that I mind is that after about 40-60 days the traffic analyser pages consistently stop working, which I guess could be memory related or the way counting is implemented which corrupts what the GUI is trying to read as it is not related to the reported overall available memory.

This new firmware seems to be missing the ability to have multiple active VPN connections and route them, (or no VPN at all) to different lan-side client devices. from my perspective that was an unwelcome and unannounced downgrade and swiftly undone! On the plus side the SNR today + reset involved in FW upgrades got my line back to just 3kb below my maximum possible connection speed.

Brief update. Simple re-flashing cured the problem. I believe the issue only emerged after around 50 days uptime on reflection. Whether it is in some way connected with the time it has been running, or whether it is to do with making some change to the configuration or a change in the network environment is not clear.
I will see if the issue recurs but I do not have much hope of it doing so given it took so long to manifest and it is at least likely there will be another firmware update in the next couple of months

I think what I will do first is disconnect it from the line and reflash with the same firmware at some point when my SNR margin is as good as it gets, as I looked at the uptime which is 48 days and I am fairly sure that at some point in the last month that tab and its display was working. (my reluctance to start with a full reset is that it is meshed to another device and I had to use the stability adjustment to get the full 80 mb and no interleaving so i want to do as little as possible and confine noticeable disconnections to the bare minimum, i.e. avoid any additional reconfiguration).
If that does not work I will do a full reset with it still offline then reinstate the settings before reconnecting the DSL. BTW it was helpful to be reminded by your screengrab that there is enough to know whether the graph is working properly whether or not the DSL is connected.
Now I just need to wait on the weather until the SNR margin is as good as it gets!

Yes – Identical effect. Seems to lock up the GUI completely for about two minutes. There was no issue with the previous firmware and I have sent feedback.

Seems to be a bug in the most recent firmware I have (3.0.0.4.386_45660) Traffic analyser tab can be opened but is not showing activity and instantly freezes the UI. Also makes it impossible to log back in to the UI for a while.

Fine for gaming. As you would be moving from a single box solution it would have the benefit of simplicity. Asus also seem to be supporting the firmware quite well.
As UK Sentinel said however a two box solution might be better. Depends on what you need or would like overall and what would be OK for you in terms of price
