This means his firmware even has this option to update nodes too after enabling Aimesh via SSH!
Almost perfect … couldnt be easier then.

It wont make much sense for me to have stock firmware on primary router and Merlin on nodes.
All the features will get lost on nodes in AP or mesh mode, you can leave them with Asus.
Only other way round primary with Merlin and all his added functionalities beside bug fixes and even with Aimesh – while it is not supported by him – but seems to work though.
Nodes will stay with Asus configured as mesh-nodes.
I dont think it even would be possible to use Merlin on nodes, how could you connect them as nodes?
But I might be wrong, never tested such config.
I am interested if you can do it ;-)

Maybe an option to change Primary Router to ASUSWRT and then update option may work? Same sort of option as @grisu was saying, but leaves Primary as ASUSWRT rather than RMerlin ?
Exactly what I meant as first option, only after all is done he can go back to merlin again on primary router.
Nodes must be on stock AFAICR to use them as mesh-nodes.
Firmware on nodes not relevant as they run in some kind of AP-mode with no routing, only if they fix Aimesh bugs you would like to update them.

Aimesh nodes are updated on master router, added on update site for all routers.
Merlin doesnt support Aimesh, so he wont show nodes to be updated.
You can unmesh them for updates or change to asus stock for updating them.
Dont have Asus anymore and forgot almost everything ;-)
You could try to directly access update page for nodes, go to update on main router and change only IP part of the url to get there.

seems to be well done, most 5G-able clients using it and changing nice between nodes.
If that will stay unchanged with next final release I will probably end beta-testing keeping in mind to never touch a running system ;-)
There is not much more I would like to have so any further updates will be cosmetic for my needs.
Config: Master 7590 on DSL 300/30, LAN-mesh with 2x 7582 and on one of those a second 7590 Wifi-mesh to neighbour, 4x Fritz!Fon M2/C4/C5 each on either one 7590.
Many clients on LAN and Wifi, some support only 2G, others even AC-160MHz, most with reservated fixed IP (about 60).
Guest network for many friends coming and going with internet access and access to each other.
Update after 24h: band and node-steering definitely improved a lot, now all ok for me!

Just got a new FRITZ!OS: 07.08-68347 BETA for my 7582 int. A/CH version!
Dont no download link, has been shown on router itself as possible update on previous 67544.
I have no changelogs so lets see what its good for ;-)

My 7590 is stable now even with beta 68106 on DSL with vplus (supervectoring) 266m and 289Mb/s down.
Problems has been the line going down exactly the day after change to beta firmware, why I had to think it caused my troubles. Fine now since 2 weeks.
At the moment no need for official 7.10, beta seems to be the same or even newer.
I am only waiting to update 7582 on beta 57544 used in mesh, which sometimes needs a reboot now for proper band and node stearing.

Dont know if you understood exactly what I meant (if you answer is belonging to my post).
Otherswise just ignore this or please Admin delete it!
Sorry, have my troubles with English.
AVM is the manufacturer of Fritz!Box which replaces now all my Asus-routers, they give 5 years warranty (not Asus).

May 8, 2019 at 8:21 am in reply to: ASUS – DSL-AC88U / DSL-AC3100 Firmwares (beta's) etc. Looks like a new Beta Release for the DSL-AC88U is available, this version has Telnet enabled and improved 2.4GHz wifi (I believe). GNUton just had a look into the firmware and no chance: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/openwrt-custom-firmware-for-asus-dsl-routers.56478/
And worse – for him its more a development firmware not able to be compiled from GPL.

AFAIK AVM will give you 5 years warranty on their routers (and fw-updates).
Even without receipt based on production date, so I buy them used much cheaper.

Didn’t know it either before seen on router (twice now).
And you easily can go back to last stock firmware (didn’t test this on mine but is offered).
