Hi all,

Just noticed Asus have a new firmware out – Version 3.0.0.4.386.45934 – 11/11/2021, has anyone tested this one at all yet?

Would I be able to go from 3.0.0.4.386_45375 to the latest firmware or do I need to go to the previous version first and then the latest version?

Was considering moving to the 7/10/2021 release but might as go to the latest one, assuming its been tested and all is ok?  It’s not been out long, so might wait a bit longer before giving it a try.

I’m trying to find a provider I can move to for FTTP when current contract ends as BT want to charge me for the BT line (even if i don’t have a number) plus the fibre so i want to move to a provider whereby I’m only paying for the FTTP and no line meaning like 20-30 quid, not best part 50 quid.

Interesting, I have used a Dell and  I have to say, not impressed at all, poor build quality, keyboard not great to use, numerous defective machines straight out the box, issues reported to dell and they are unable to resolve as issues are duplicatable.

I’ve had good experience with Lenovo and HP, prefer intel processors overall, never been a fan of AMD. Mainly use as a work machine, don’t play games hardly at all now.  10th or 11th gen CPU be ok I think.  Will be mainly used when away so not as a main machine.

For mac, i have a 2012mac mini i use, its not that good now, even with ram added, takes several mins to boot up, it has gotten slower since each new OS came out and its currently running the max os it can i.e. it cant take the last 2 OS’s i think as not supported.

The mac minis shot up in price though, I’m sure i only paid around 300-400 quid for mine but the new one is £699 and if u want 16gb ram, add £200 and 10gb nic, add £100 so effectively 1k… bit extreme as i don’t use it all that much to warrant the 1k.. have it as bit more secure than windows and to get familiar with mac os :)

oh I plan to keep it and use it as a spare for basic stuff but thinking get a machine supported as it is 5 years old now and that way should all be ok rather than some devices not showing drivers etc as no driver for it :)

Looks as if they don’t have a manual for the device on it’s own, they combine it with the phone manual (if you buy one with that box) i.e here: https://gse.gigaset.com/fileadmin/legacy-assets/CustomerCare/Manuals/SL4xx/SL450_GO/A31008-M2721-L101-1-7619_en_IE-UK.pdf

Thanks, it is off by default but couldn’t see point of setting to on if then no ddns etc :)

I’ll check out above. Any idea what ports are safe to use for the forwarding? is there a specific range or just any other than ftp, http, https ports?

Nice, had parents place done couple of years back when they started the SMETS2 smart meters, they have the small SSE meter. They did the same took meter readings, replaced and started from 0.

On your bill, it will likely have old meter number and reading & costs and then the new meter number with the readings and cost.

My place, i only got Elec switched to a smart meter, first SMETS1, then later got changed to SMETS2.  Haven’t bothered with my gas as my gas supplier is a small company and they not doing smart meters yet but gas meter box is outside the property so can be read any time easily.  Also i seen some SMETS2 gas meters look very small, not the size and depth of your one (which mine is like at the moment).  Its one of those small brown triangle type boxes so I’m a little dubious of which type they would replace with.  I believe the small ones the battery only lasts 5 years?  The gas meter also connects to the Elec meter I believe to send readings back.

Thanks, there is a remote access option on the webui of the go 100 box under Settings -> Network -> IP Configuration -> Remote management but its just a Yes or No option.

I’ll check out those links. Yes its on Asus, its plugged into the router via a network cable so that’s all good.

Yes, my parents have the Gigaset box and I set it all up.  Was working fine for around a month or so, then suddenly handsets had a error msg on them.  The handsets were registered to the Box but the Box suddenly decided it didn’t want to connect to the provider.

I ended up looking online and then altering the settings but want to be able to do it remotely should it happen again.

Thanks, the Asus stock firmware has that same panel and shows me what ports on the router are connected and at what speed but doesn’t show a length of time connected.

I presume RMerlin doesn’t show access times for wired connections in the list of devices connected also?  I’ve attached a pic of the same pic you attached with the stock firmware :)

Yes, thats what I wanted but effectively you are paying £40 for just FTTP.  If you keep the copper line, then its £20 copper, £20 FTTP…. so effectively they still get £40 for just FTTP and effectively cut there costs overall so I suspect when it becomes more main stream, they will have to reduce the costs as can’t see people paying that in future, at the moment its new so obviously they want to recoup costs, just like when 80mb fibre came out originally, was high costs.. over £50 a month i beleive but its come down considerably now.

Update – No longer required as prices quoted wasn’t what I thought they were so makes the move not viable for me at present so i’m sticking as is at present.
