I thought Asus DDNS works under Double-NAT too, not only Merlin since about a year but stock too.
Or is this only for RT not DSL?

I meant this under Admin to open SSH access from WAN/internet: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1000926/
But its somehow insecure, better to use VPN to connect to your intranet from abroad.

For most devices (PC, laptop and whatsoever except chinese junk) you can download firmware for many years after EoL – thats part of the game called service!
Often you will never get any update, but possible to download initial drivers and firmware.

Did some testing on NAS functionality on my 7590 with old external 2,5″ 500GB HDD on USB port and formated with ext4 as NTFS will serve only about half speeds. Large HDD not tested but reported to work too, partitions limited to 4TB (I personally wont use that).
Working quite reliable for me with good enough speeds for our needs (music and video streaming and little backup or file sharing).
I tested large files with 67GB data as well as many 171000 files filling disk and all ok.
Using SMB for file transfer, FTP working but much slower for small files (thought it should be faster). PC connected over LAN, Wifi (link speed 800Mb/s) will slower read and write ~20%.
USB3.0 isn’t much faster than 2.0 with my HDD, maybe SSD could get little more, so in future I will use USB2.0 (green mode) only to keep my 2.4GHz Wifi perfect for backhaul to remote mesh-node.
Here my results:
large file read/write: 55/22 MB/s
small files (1kB) read and write same: 1850 files per minute or 31/s
file mix 10GB in 10000 files read/write completed in: 10/15 min thats about 17/12 MB/s
Read: https://www.snbforums.com/attachments/upload_2019-11-18_9-34-45-png.19934/
Write: https://www.snbforums.com/attachments/upload_2019-11-18_9-35-28-png.19935/
Retested with smaller files read/write in USB2.0 – USB3.0 mode on HDD:
single 1GB file: 27/52s – 21/50s
1000x 1kB files: 44/38s – 43/37s
Mix 1GB file and 1000x 1k files: 69/88s – 64/85s
Result did prove with mix-test as it is about summarized times of the 2 single test.
USB3.0 will be noticeably faster only for reading large files.
Would be interesting to see how it could be improved using a SSD.

November 17, 2019 at 9:26 pm in reply to: ASUS – DSL-AC88U / DSL-AC3100 Firmwares (beta's) etc. Looks like a new Beta Release for the DSL-AC88U is available, this version has Telnet enabled and improved 2.4GHz wifi (I believe). DSL-AC88U_v9.10.06_build581_debug.w.zip https://www.asuswebstorage.com/navigate/s/604D61534F2541D1B3CE1CC031A697E4Y UK Sentinel In a completely... #5043RT-AC86U: Especially 2018 versions may be troublesome, 2.4G issues seems to be introduced in 2018 while early 2017 and latest 2019 are ok. In my opinion if you think about buy an 86U you should take a new one manufatured 2019 (or later
).Hanging after reboot is a known problem for all 86U, some have it more often than others with no reason. Latest firmwares could help but still seen in some case.
Thats why it would be helpful if someone brave with an 86U and more often seen it to test if GT-AC2900 firmware on it would solve it – then we would know it could be solved with firmware if Asus is willing to fix or that it is a hardware design failure.
DSL-AC68U: Good to hear that it can be reused as Aimesh node now with offical firmware!
Is it only enhanced to support Wireless backhaul or can it be used with LAN-backhaul too???
Have you tested both?
What I can remember they only did wifi-backhaul still missing wired.

you mean GT-AC2900 not 1900 I think.
Have you ever seen the known reboot problem on your 86U when it stays dark after reboot?
Is it same with GT firmware on it?

Really? In SNB they all say RT-AC86U is good for upto 250Mb/s and so mostly limited by VPN providers.

whatβs difference between RT and GT series? what features does GT have that RT doesnβt?
GT maybe better for pure gamers out of the box (and much more expensive) while
RT (most or many) can be run with Merlin featured firmware with many possibilities to write your own scripts to do similar things or even better and to implement many security or additional features.

You have to set 5th sunday March 2 hour (will jump at 2AM to 3AM) and back on 5th sunday October 3 hour (will jump back at 3AM summertime to 2AM wintertime).
Thats true as long as you have summertime in GB or anywhere in EU.
5th is programmed as last sunday, so true for years with only 4 sundays in this month too.
And hour is very misleading (at least for me), it’s not how many hours difference to anything but just the time when it will jump from one to the other, usually done between 2 and 3 AM in the morning.
