Hi
Got a friend looking for a recommendation to replace ISP box of crap.
Is the DSL-AX82U any good? This will need to be handed over to a non techy so is it stable?
Thanks in advance……

The WAN port is for telephony it won’t work for a LAN connection.
Thats not correct, WAN port of RT-AC68U is an Ethernet-port, and DSL-AC68U got an DSL-port (for phone-line) there is no WAN port on it. @Patrik Pabo: So you have to use “alternative” picture you posted. AFAIK you have to set in menu which port shall act as WAN-port on your DSL-AC68U, in your case set it to LAN1 and use the port named LAN1.
Correct, my mistake the blue port is DSL not WAN but my advice was correct the port is for telephony only, so you need to use one of the LAN ports.

Connect to one of the LAN ports on the DSL-RT68U and it should work fine.

You mean 2 x DSL-AC68U I think ?
Yes, I have 1x RT-AC68U and 2 x DSL-AC68U
With the latest firmware they should be able to act as a node, similar to an RT-AC68U, connecting in the same way.

Hi there, I have an RT-AC86U as primary router (connected to vodafone power station via WAN port) and need to add two ethernet wired AiMesh nodes. Accidentaly I have bough two DSL-AC86u, instead of RT…sigh…was in a hurry and the price was good As for today the DSL firmware allow for Aimeshing I do not need to make the conversion to RT, right ? Can DSL-AC86U use LAN port to be aimesh-ed with ethernet backhaul ? thx!

Unicorn status = $1 billion dollars market value.
Private company so market cap academic, but if they can sell something that costs a few euros for a few hundred euros then it would be well received in the markets.

Silly money due to Unicorn status.

I was only interested in a G.Fast modem as future proofing, no G.Fast available here at present but was in the market for a new modem so thought I’d look at what was available. All the suppliers on the Chinese trading platforms are time wasters.
I’m not going to hold my breath for 5G as 4G is barely available here and certainly doesn’t get the crazy speeds some people talk about.

It appears impossible to buy a G.Fast modem at present.
I’ve tried all sorts of suppliers on Alibaba, AliExpress, GearBest, DHGate etc. many of whom claim to sell the Huawei MT992 or the Zyxel/Zisa equivalents. None of them, not a single one has ever been able to supply. Nor are they able to answer why they are offering/advertising something for sale if it’s unavailable. Minimum order quantities have never been the issue, the existence of the product has.
Draytek’s estimate of Q2/Q3 for the 166 looks wildly optimistic, I don’t think anyone has seen one in the wild yet.
I really hope some sensible options emerge soon. I don’t like Draytek kit, never have, never will so hope there is at least one alternative to the 166.

AiMesh supports both Wirelss and Wired (backhaul) options, I think @ristoe means as the DSL-AC68U does not have a WAN port (RJ45) then they are seeing if ETH LAN 1 port or another is do able? @six – side question, did you receive notification by email on this post, and has this always been the case?
I think any Ethernet Port will work.
Yes I got an email notification, and yes I normally do get them.

DO you mean, instead of using wifi to connect Primary to Node, you are thinking of using a wired connection between Primary and Node?
It’s a while since I played with this but I believe it’s possible if the node is wired or powerlined to the hub. If they can see each other on the network I think it will work automatically.

It probably won’t work, but all the things that should work don’t work either.
There used to be a few utilities knocking around to create readable config backups. Have a dig around on SNB and see if they are still maintained.

Got an email with your post in it but can’t see it on the forum.
Guessing the spam filters are doing overtime again.
Can you try a 30 30 30 reset?
Pain to do, needs to be done properly no guessing. Suggest you get yourself comfortable holding in the rest button for 90 seconds is a pain.
With the power on using a ball point pen press the reset button in for 30 seconds.
Keep holding it in and power off, keep reset button held for another 30 seconds.
Keep holding it in and power on, keep reset button held for another 30 seconds.
If that doesn’t work then start trying variations on nvram erase like (at your own risk):
mtd-erase -d nvram
nvram erase
erase nvram
mtd -r erase nvram
