I spoke with ASUS today and they say, they plan to hopefully release late next week a Formal (official) Firmware Version for the DSL-AC88U, DSL-AC3100 and the DSL-AC88U Annex B, which will be available by there download servers/website.
This will include the latest Memory leak fix, Wifi patches from Broadcom etc, any more than that I do not know currently

Yes the DSL-AC88U Annex B, you are first user on this forum.
The DSL-AC88U Annex B was designed for Germany and Czech Republic etc (originally) and I have an update as to Firmware.

In Advanced WAN: Dual WAN
Enable Dual WAN – On
Primary WAN – WAN
Secondary WAN – USB
Dual WAN mode – Fail OverIn Advanced WAN: Internet Connection
WAN Type – USB
Enable USB Modem – Yes
Location – ManualThen enable Tethering on your USB Tethering on Phone after plugging in USB cable.
I realise you say, you had this working for the Sony, but if this does not work, then I assume the Router does not support this phone, maybe try an much older router firmware just for testing purposes ?
Was Sony cable and Nokia Cable the same, or are they different, maybe try a second Nokia USB cable ?
To test Nokia Tehering, can you tether your Nokia via a laptop etc. and does it work?
FYI -Does not support iPhone either (or at least did not last time I tested), so a workaround can be found here?

Now I have started the test with AiProtection ON, Web History ON with the backup on USB key every hour. The memory allocation is a 16% greater than the previous value (56%). My feeling is that the big memory problem should be fixed! And this is a good news.
thanks for update, yes others are also reporting a initial positive result regarding memory usage, will be interesting to see if AiProtection/USB usage is also managed well by the routers memory ?

October 2, 2018 at 7:35 pm in reply to: Asus RT-AC86u Just bought one from Amazon for Β£160.93p #992If i backup my settings and then upgrade to the Merlin FW will the saved backup file be compatible with the Merlin FW?
You should be able to just flash the RMerlin firmware straight onto the router, without needing to back it up and restore. just make sure you use the major releases likeΒ RT-AC86U_384.6_0.zip etc
Note; back-up config is wise, just incase you hit an issues, but usually it works well as a straight flash
